Any interest in a Bus Building Tips thread ... ?

A fairly wide range of folks come to this forum, some are totally new to doing project like this and others have been doing things like this all their lives.

Maybe the old timers would like to share their tips and techniques with the nubes.

I was thinking of starting a Bus Building Tech Tips thread over in the Conversion Tutorials How to's.

You guys think it's a good idea or a waste of time?

Will the old guys help out?

Post opinions in this thread ... including the mods and those administering this thread.

If there's no use for it ... no hard feelings.

Do it. Try to get a mod on board and see if they can watch it and delete all the clutter from time to time.

I think it's a great idea! I've combed through most of this forum and a few others as well. I still have a lot of questions regarding designing the on-board house systems. Basic concept posts would be a great start. Then we can follow those up with more detailed discussions.

Would be absolutely useful. Especially if set up by category....like...

shopping for the right bus
insurance
registering
diesel basics
gas engine basics
transmissions
rear axles
dealing with rust
removing seats
removing panels
removing glass
body work
welding
riveting
plumbing
electrical
cabinetry
etc., etc., etc.

A lot could be filled in just with links to existing posts/threads

?????????????

im sorry to thread jack but everytime i see your avatar all i can think of is this ...see above

No problem Man. I only got 6.23 into the vid ... but had to stop to go ...

I'll try to watch the whole thing later.

Yeah .. and if we could get every contributor to include the titles you suggested in his title post. It sure would make searching for stuff easier.

I wonder if the size of this webpage thingie would permit the addition of another forum, named as above with the categories you've suggested, perhaps simplified and condensed a bit.

The topics could simply be added as stickies to the already existing How-To sub-forum.

I know that I would find it very useful if we had some sort of Audobon Field Guide to engines and transmissions. Reading this forum for a couple of years, I have absorbed a lot of knowledge about which engines and transmissions are or are not desirable, and why. But I can't look under the hood and figure out what I'm looking at. When I see "Caterpillar" stamped into the valve cover, that's a good hint. When I see 6 individual valve covers instead of one long one, I know that should be a hint but I'm not sure what it's telling me.

A few pics plucked out of the archives or off the Net with "with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one explaining what each one was to be used as evidence against us" would be greatly appreciated.

I do know that I'm asking for actual volunteer work here, and it's OK if it doesn't get done. Come the time I actually know anything, I'd be happy to contribute.

When I'm sitting in my cubicle and burst into laughter for no apparent reason, my co-workers tend to look upon me with suspicion and mistrust.

Thanks.

Glad I could make you look suspicious!

I've always been interested in your .sig. Google translate drops the ball on it; I'm assuming it's something along the lines of "So many horses' a$$es, so little time'?

"Jackass".......at least that's what an ex-GF said it meant.

I told her it was kind of pointless insulting someone in a language they didn't understand.

I think this is a great idea as I've been scouring this site for hours on end and the search function is really not so helpful in a lot of cases. I end up going back to google and then get better results.

As my build progresses, I'll have a lot more to contribute but so far I've got some pretty well laid out plans. Experience will tell if they are quality though.
