I have been camping for many years and find it to be the most relaxing, enjoyable activity. I started out with a tent and camped in tents up until last July when I bought my bus. I've upgraded a little bit. Nothing wrong with tent camping though - I like the primitive feeling I get from sleeping on the ground and huddling in a sleeping bag to keep warm. I couldn't resist a bus though. We have bobcats and cougars lurking about southern Iowa, and sometimes I kinda get creeped out thinking about what might be hiding just beyond the light of my campfire. The thought of sleeping a few feet above the ground in a solid steel structure seems so secure to me. Maybe some night while lying in bed in my bus, I'll hear a cougar sniffing around outside and be thankful I'm inside.
Is there anyone else here who bought their bus specifically for camping like I did? I'm not into the long distance traveling - just weekend excursions to the campgrounds.

That is busters mission in life, my grandsons and I built our bus to take us to deer camp 48 miles from the house and an occasional state park. We are going to the camp zoe get together in june. That is going to be a pretty good trip. In a nutshell our love of camping was our motivation to build our bus,and we're glad we did. This forum has really enhanced the fun of owning a converted bus also.

i love camping i have been doing it all my life however i believe that camping has become quite industrialized with 25 to 30 bucks a nite to camp rules and regs to death no older campers no picking up the branches to have a fire or get a fine for defacing the forest cocky rangers 8 bucks for 5 pieces of firewood its crazy so now we bought a cabin at the lake and there is no ranger! the bus? boondocking! carry on camping!

smitty thats an awsome story truly brings home the meaning of camping build that bus and take yer dad out there my dad is 72 and still spends 4 months of the year in his van camper thanks for sharing timbuk

Smitty that was a cool story...I hope to start that tradition with my family. I have been camping all over since I was 9 yrs. old. I've camped all over the countryside of England. I've camped/hiked a large part of the Appalacian Mountains and when I graduated college, I camped across the U.S. from New Jersey to California for 4 months. My wife loves to camp and now we have a 1 yr. old daughter, I deceided to buy a bus to camp a little easier. We bought it when she was pregnant and now we're using it for weekend camping. It's the best!!!
