Are 24v water pumps better than 12v?

My house battery is 24 volts. I don't have a need for any 12v system. But after searching for a 24v water pump, I haven't seen a whole lot of reliable options. Many reviews are negative, and not many places sell them.

It's quite the opposite with 12v it seems. Should I just get a 24v-12v DC converter to power only one of the more popular brands of 12v water pumps? Is there much loss in efficiency, or is the converter another point of failure? Anyone have a recommendation for a 24v water pump?

I use a shurflow with the three pug chambers. Did not read any reviews but it would be very hard for me to imagine that 24 volt motors would have a lower life expectancy then 12 volt motors. We have a 24 volt bus and the lower current should give you a longer life time on the brushes and commutator.
If you go with a 24/12 dc dc converter be sure that it can handle the startup current or better the stall current from the motor.

I worked on floor scrubbers that used electric water pumps. Might try those suppliers for options And gpm specs.

Vroom - let us know how that pump works out. 3.6 gpm and 30-50 psi would be pretty undersized for most systems, IMO.


Are you running the fresh water through any filters after the pump?
