I,m nearing the end of my build and I have been thinking about protection. I will be carrying a hand gun on my travels. I would like some viewpoints on the best place for a gun safe. This is a small ( 1 handgun) keypad and key safe. I want it accessible in case needed.
One thought is right next to the driver that is also easily accessible to other members. It will also be very visible to people and L E O.
another is hidden in a closet, the last is in the bedroom.

I will be complying with any and all laws that may apply.

I'm not a fan of guns at all but I would say the bedroom. If someone were to break in at night (and I'm sure they won't) having it up front won't be any use to you.

I have been considering the same thing and am leaning towards putting in two of them just large enough for a pistol and a couple of mags.

One near the drivers seat and one in the bedroom.

I'd agree. Put the gun safe out of sight just like you would in a regular home.

I was told in most states you won't get in trouble as long as the gun is not loaded and has some type of lock on it.

Word is a loaded weapon will cost you one thousand per round of ammunition remaining in the weapon.

I believe I read previously that some states specify that a firearm "being transported" must not be within reach of the driver. I second the bedroom idea.

Gun laws vary CONSIDERABLY by state. I would make a point to educate yourself as you travel to new places.

Getting a concealed carry permit can be helpful as well. I am able to legally carry a loaded pistol in my rig in at least 24 states due to reciprocity between certain states.

I know each state is different, but you would be less likely to be legal if the box was within your reachable access while in the seat.

We feel a fire rated safe is an important installation. Important papers and cash need a safe place as well as firearms of you find yourself needing to travel to a gun unfriendly area. We have concealed permits in multiple states and try to avoid travel to states that are not gun friendly.
Real safes that have a good fire rating can be installed in many areas like floor or closet, the safe in our bus weighs around 450 lbs. and the one in our sprinter is around 200 lbs.

I've seen a lot of these discussions, and I rarely take part so I'll just add this.

In the Long Distance Motorcycling community the riders cover a lot of states, and regularly.

The conclusion most reach after researching the various rules in different parts of the country, is simply to leave the guns at home.

I know that won't suit everyone.

We have reached the same conclusion than as my bus is my home.

im going to have a rear garage, with a wall seperating it and the bedroom, and i really want to do a in wall safe behind a sliding piece of art above my bed. wont work for everybody, but its my plan. IF i carry a weapon, i will get licensed first and check every state on my trip beforehand
