Best spot for fan / vent?

Trying to figure out where the best spot to put a maxair vent fan in my bus would be. It is prob 32 feet long inside. Thought about putting it where the current old bus vent is about a foot in front of the front e hatch. Looks like it is leaking. Is that too far forward? Just thought it might be less holes.

I placed my fan in the middle of the bus where the kitchen and living area is. Might add another in the bedroom.

I haven't convinced myself that a permanent fixture fan is the way to go. I may change my mind after the build, but my current plan is to build brackets to mount fans in a few windows, and a removable fan to mount on my hatch.

I'd panel over all that stuff on the roof and put the vent wherever you're gonna spend the most time.

What ever end you put it on, if you open a window on the opposite end it will create more circulation than you think. Fan and exit vents on the same end won't cool the other end.

To some extent, it depends on your goals, I suspect. Some folks like them over the cooking area to eliminate odor/moisture, some like them in the bathroom area to eliminate odor/moisture. I've got two Fan-Tastic vents going in purely for removal of hot air. One is in the bedroom, the other in the living room.

Btw; since you mentioned holes in the roof... My emergency hatches are coming out. Going into those two spaces is the 14" square opening for the two vents and also two A/C units. Basically a steel frame insert.

Absolutely agree. Fan on one end and open window on the other end will be the best setup one could imagine. I did that many yrs ago when I lived in an upstairs apartment that had no ac.

Would 4 maxair fans be too much in a 12 row dog nose with 2 mini splits? Was thinking one in the bath and one in kitchen for odor/moisture and then in in living area and one in bedroom area since thats where most time will be spent. May can do without the one in the living area since it'll be open to the kitchen. Would 3 be too many of those fans? The one in the bedroom might not be necessary either. Just put the mini split units in the living and bedroom areas

I love them. Put as many as you want. They're GREAT for opening it up with light and fresh air. Pop for the reversible ones or buy the regular ones and you can add a reverse switch yourself.

I just put one in near where the bathroom will be at the back of the bus. And where that “vent” you currently have is, will be where my rooftop ac will go. Full circulation capabilities.

Pricey but cool.
Its easy enough to close them though. And there are rain covers you can buy that let you keep them open in any weather.

I've got an electric radiator fan mounted in the forward roof hatch. I wired it so that it is reversible. It REALLY moves air.

I think which ever amount you want. I don't see how 4 could hurt.

If you got A/C most of the time, then you only need one fan. No A/C, then as many fans or vents as you like.

Vent

I have tried to replace my roof vents twice and regretted it both times. Plus they are too wide so you have to fab a smaller hole. It is easy to put a fresh metal cutting blade on a circular saw and cut through both the roof and ceiling at the same time (careful, it’s also easy to cut through the structural beams). I use my roof hatches a LOT more than I thought I would especially after I put a Jeggs rooftop cargo carrier, but also to repair solar or install a telescopic ladder to easily get up to your deck.

are you planning on keeping your hatches? I am in the process of deleting mine and will replace the forward hatch with a rooftop a/c unit, and the rear hatch I will replace with a Airxcel | Maxxair | Maxxfan Deluxe (Remote Opening)

I will remove that vent you have a picture of in the original post and skin over it for no possible future leak sites. my bus is 28' FWIW. you can see some of the progress in my build thread in my signature below!
