Bigger tires?

So, I might be buying a few transit buses for scrap. Some of them have decent tires, like, much better than what's on my bus, but they're 305/85-22.5. I'm currently running 295/75-22.5. They look huge, but it sounds like there are Wanderlodge folks running up to 315's.

Just curious if it'd be worth a pit stop at my shop on the way to the scrapper....

Lol! My bus uses the 8.25x22.5 wheels (or something close to that), where that transit bus uses 11.25x22.5 (again, close).

The placard in my bus shows 275/75-22.5 as the tire of choice, so they're already oversized at 295. I was curious if anyone had experience with bigger tires. Do they rub? Interfere with anything? Limit steering? Cause any handling issues (cause she rides like she's on rails anyway)?

What I read in the Wanderlodge pages is that Michelin approved using 11w tires on 8w wheels, but that doesn't tell me about how they'd fit the bus...

I wonder if you might be mixing things up a bit. My bus shows tire size as 9R22.5 but shows rim size as 22.5x6.75 or the other way around. You need to make sure the rim width is acceptable for the tire you want to use. The tire sizes don't use quarters. It's 8R22.5 or 11R22.5.

Maybe that's it. Not sure where I got the decimals, other than my bus is supposed to have 8r or 275/75-22.5. I think I saw two sizes on the Orions. Some were 11r, while others were 305/85-22.5. The 305s just look gigantic.

I may end up having to move upward of 15 buses in two days, might not have time for breaking tires, but if it was a sure thing, I'd pick one bus and put it to the side...

This is very bad news. I have 9R22.5 and want to install 11R22.5. Not a big deal except I have 6 lug 22.5 wheels. Today I stopped at the International dealer to find out how difficult it would be to get another wheel as a spare. Apparently it is easier to find Unicorn tears. My rims are 6.75 wide. So I guess I will need to rethink my tire swap.

There is a company in Wisconsin that does custom wheels for just this dilemma. Found them some time back. Since our move I lost their information. However, by following my steps, you can locate them and get proper rims for your bus like I plan on getting my B600. Since I'm upto my eyeballs in work here's the info:

Rims made by Accuride have a number stamped on the center core as well as the rim. This will be a five digit number (I think - I'd have to double check). Get that number and call Accuride and let them know you need an eight inch ring instead of the 6.75 ring, and you know there is a manufacturer in Wisconsin that does this (new core and ring, they don't recycle - it's all new of course - DOT regs). You need the info on that company. Ask the people on the other end if they don't know if there's someone else that does. This took me about six hours or so to get to the person that knew the information. Three years ago the eight inch wheel cost about $450-$75 each or so if I remember correctly. My little black book of mechanical businesses got well packed and now I can't find it, or I'd be able to give you the info directly. Sorry for the 'round-about way of doing this, but for right now it's the best I can do.

Let me know how it goes and if you need any further help, I'll put more effort in as time allows since we're both in the same boat.... I think they Christened it "Titanic"......

I AM just kidding. I don't think they're nearly heavy enough and I have no idea if they accommodate dual rears...
