Birddog's Bus

Moving the bed in before you even have the seats removed eh?

Aren't you skipping like 20 steps? :whistling:

Well, I am leaving 3 seats in on purpose. Two behind the driver seat will be for a dinning area, the other on the right is just for a seat. I kinda want to take it and use it before I get too far along to see what I like and what I don't like. Again this is just a weekend rig I don't have any intention of living in it or long extended stays. A metal tent really. The bed platform will come out really easily if it needs to.
The picture is our elk hunting camp in Colorado, at 10500 ft elevation, temps got to the teens and we survived. I'll be fine in the bus

I hear ya. It will be a fine use as is for a metal tent.

I just threw my 1950's retro couch into mine so I can sit down while working on the interior. I'm making mine livable, but I won't live in it. I want to be able to travel for 2-3 months at a time while working remote from it so I can see the world more, but I plan to maintain my house.

Got the first trip in this past weekend. Weather was HOT. Dogs did great riding and camping out for two nights. Was at a friend's property for ARRL field day, a ham radio event. My big worry about it being too hot inside the bus didn't happen. With the roof vents and windows open it was about the same temperature inside as our. A box fan kept me cool enough to sleep. Not sure I have the heat figured out and my right foot was awful warm on the 60 mile ride. Fuel gauge went from full to half on the trip there but only about a 1/4 tank coming home.

Nice, I've never done one of those things; but I left all my radios in another state awhile back. Doggo looks cute and chill.

Specifically addressing the difference in mileage, did you figure in the elevation change between the two locations? I took a cross-country trip one time after making some changes for efficiency in a ranger, and I was shocked when I had one tank get an average of around 30 MPG, but at some point later I realized that I also lost around 1,000 feet in altitude from one point to my destination, which was most likely that magic 30 mpg tank.

Honestly I think the float is stuck in the tank, only maybe 400 ft difference in elevation. From 576 to 900 and change.

Second trip in the books. Both were Ham Radio related. First was ARRL Field Day and second was Ohio State Parks on the Air. First time in a campground. I'm going to need curtains, this isn't like my camp up north, mostly to keep the dogs from barking at everything, and I guess I need a little privacy. One of my two 100aH batteries will run the 12v fridge from Friday afternoon until Sunday morning including charging phone and the inverter for the TV for a half hour. I'm going to need screens. But I had fun and learning what I want and figuring out how I want it. Still just going to be a metal tent basically. Have this military laptop case I am thinking of using as an electrical enclosure for my solar system.

You are doing it exactly the right way. Use the bus a few times and you will figure out what is needed and what isn't.

BTW, That's one beauty of a canine critter.

POTA Parks on the Air

And OSPOTA Ohio State Parks on the Air
https://ospota.org/

OSPOTA is like a Field Day for Ohio POTA is world wide and you can "hunt" parks or activate them or both. I'm not a big rag chewer so I like the contest, special event type stuff along with building antennas.

Some pictures from the clubs setup for OSPOTA and I tinted some of the windows when I got home today. Was just going to do the four that were going to have a bunk/shelf over them but ended up doing about 12.
