This may have already been posted here before, but here are the links to some handy lookup tools I've come across online:
Blue Bird Vantage - Look up bus info based on VIN, body number, factory service number etc.

Not a huge amount of info, but some interesting stuff. Also gives you the engine and transmission serial numbers which can be handy if you don't have access to the bus, or plates are missing/damaged. Note that its always possible the engine or transmission have been changed, but this at least will tell you what it was originally equipped with.
Unfortunately they do not have manuals or wiring diagrams for my 1997 online, but they may for newer models? Here's what my lookup produced:
With the engine serial number you can register for a free account with cummins and get info on the engine. Most importantly I was able to get at the owners and repair manuals. Handy, as I was thinking about buying some off eBay.

Unfortunately it did not come up with manuals for my transmission, but at least its a way to confirm what transmission is in a given bus, and the major features.
Lastly, I know this link has been shared elsewhere but it's a good one. No service manual for my 1997, but it did at least produce an owners manual.
