On the roads
Well the day has come. Were at a RV spot in Redwoods and got no start this morning. Been on the road 8 months and put 15,000 + miles so far.
Check engine light came on few days ago when first started cold in the mornings. Then goes off when engine reaches temp. Stays off all day.
Do not have a scan tool , yet...This morning started, ran for 3 minutes and just quit. Then crank but no start. Just changed fuel filters a week ago.
I can hear lift pump working. No mobile mechanic within 80 miles.

2000 Bluebird RE , 8.3 cummins, caps fuel system . Had caps pump replaced

7 months ago with re-man. Gonna try to get a scan tool tomorrow in Crescent city. Any thing else I can try? many thanks.

Ok got it sorted out, had air in fuel system I believe .
Found a crack in the fuel line coming off of the
Caps pump. It’s the return line a small kink with a crack leaking fuel …ordered a new line won’t be here till next week. Not sure if that was the code cause no body has a scan tool with the old 6 pin plug in…Redwoods ain’t a bad place to be stranded, lots of trees to hang the hammock.

Thats sucks, - kinda

but you're right, theres not a better place in the world to be broke down.

i went thru there last summer and absolutely love the area, trinidad /crescent city is "high" on my list of where i'd be happy living out my remaining years.

good luck getting it fixed up!

Does Cummins use OBD II protocols, or do they use their own proprietary software? (For example, my engine uses DDEC II, something unique to Detroit Diesel, so I need its specific software for my ProLink scanner, and it uses the old 12-pin Packard plug for its diagnostic port.)

Where are you staying at? I pedaled from Seattle down the coast a year ago, and I spent several glorious nights in NorCal campgrounds among the redwoods. Amazing. After I finish my bus maybe I'll also want to spend summers there; winters there are too soggy for me!
