Building around Heaters and Hoses (Pros & Cons)

I am also trying to decide how to route these hoses. Being more of a visual person, does anyone have pictures of how these are routed underneath the chassis? I am also thinking of keeping at least one of the heaters in the front of the bus...

you can definitely run your heater hoses underneath. if it were my bus id probably run them along the inside of the frame similar to how the air lines run. protecting them isnt too hard, you can run them in a flexible tubing.

is going to protect you from the direct elements.. you can get tougher stuff at a much higher price or you could even run hard pipe if you wanted.

I cannot find replacement heater hose by the foot or meter . They sell kits for cars with the hoses already shaped how you need them and I found ONE place that sells 9.5' sections but I don't want to make a lot of connections and don't I have to run all the way from the RE to my heater in the front? What are my options? Someone somewhere in a thread suggested 3/4" instead of 1" and another person thought that would be problematic. And where can I find the best option at a reasonable price!? All my hose was tossed by the previous owners that mostky gutted it.
 
I believe Doran has some for half that price. It's still spendy.
I was hoping to get it cheaper than that. I can wait to get it from China but I can't find it even on AliExpresa which is the consumer version of Alibaba. Amazon had 9.5' sections for $10 - and GRAINGER.com has 50' sections for $82 in red and $94.75 on black both with 1" ID. Red says working pressure 44 PSI temp range -40 to 200F standard SAE30R3 and black says pressure 25 and temp range 250 degrees standards SAE20R3 class D.

Will either of those work? They are both by Thermoid, made in the USA and 1.34" OD.
 
The pressure in a bus coolant system is usually around 7 psi, and normal coolant temp is around 180F.

Overheat temps can get to 220F before engines shut down. If you go much higher than that you will be running significant risk of severe engine damage. At that point, your heater hoses will be the least of your concerns,

The black one you mentioned is probably the one I'd use, but I do think the oem hoses are higher rated. Can't be sure because I haven't looked.

This is insanely good compared to anything I have found if the PSI is appropriate. The temperature range clearly is. Wow! I have looked for hours! It seems like I need 80-100ft to bring the heat all the way to the front of the bus and back so this will save me a ton compared to the $5.19 per foot that someone said O'Reilly's had IIRC and even the $2.19/ft at pick n pull!!
 
The website said it met or exceeded OEM, and that it was standard heater hose. The USED heater hose at pick n pull is $2.19 per foot!!!!!
I was actually referring to the hose I found at Grainger here, which isn't clear. Sorry.

And 100ft should do it for a 40ft bus that had the heaters stripped, right? Are you going to run it under the bus and protect it with something else? What kind of hose clamps are the best for this?

I've done mine. I re-used the oem hose as it was in perfect condition.

Regular ss hose clamps, the worm-drive kind can be bought in packs of 10.

The difficulty I had was sourcing connectors, but I found some eventually on Amazom.

I'm still thinking of adding pipe insulation to keep the coolant warm on its run forwards. It won't make much difference but it would let the defroster warm up more quickly.

And 100' is plenty right?

I didn't measure mine.

I lost a few feet where I had to trim the hoses I pulled out, and I had very little left when done. My bus is 40'.

I would be very surprised if I needed more than 80 feet of hose for the entire job though.
 
Ryder Fleet Products who I bought the hose from also carries some 1" connectors so I added a few to my hose order.
