wouldn't that be 15w-40 "Rotella for diesels"? They make regular gas engine 15w-40 also. I think it has more detergents for gas engines.

Doesn't have to be rotella. I get 15w40 heavy duty diesel oil at Rural King for $30 per 5 gallon bucket. rotella is $65.

But the oil does NEED to be labeled for Diesel. cadillackid didn't mention the part that there were different oils for diesel and gas engines...both 15w-40. I just wanted to make sure that Bus 102 was aware of the difference.

I didnt realize it had ot be labelled Diesel.. personally I use rotella but i know that tends ot be more expensive than other brands so i didnt mention the brand..

Folding camper steps won't reach the distance from the sill to the ground. Try fabbing a boarding ladder from an older step ladder.

Sad news today I tried to crank the bus for the first time and it didn't even turn over. I have two batteries. If I can get help of how they hook up right I will really appreciate it

I am not sure exactly what your question is.

Most full sized school buses had two 8D batteries wired together (parallel) with positive and positive wired together and negative and negative wired together.

Sometimes, in older equipment, you may find someone has wired batteries in series. In order to get 12-vdc out of 6-vdc batteries you need to wire the batteries in a series with positive on battery one connected to negative on battery two and negative on battery one connected to positive on battery two.

Being that it's summer and if yourvebgine is on good shape you can start a 444e on a single battery just to get you going, have you got that bus driving yet?

I'm haven't driven it yet. I finally got two batteries and I know for a fact diseal can be started with two batteries if I'm not mistaking. I think the seloid is bad on it. The key switch doesn't work so it's stater or seliod to crank it. When we touched the seloid it didn't even make a noise of turning over. Just silence

I am still puzzled as to what is your question.

If the batteries are hot, if the batteries are hooked up with clean terminals that are tight on each end, if the transmission is in neutral, and if any other interlock is not stopping you then when you turn of the key it should make things happen.

But if any of the list is no you are going to have a hard time getting the engine to start.

if one jumps the solenoid then it should crank the engine, as this bypasses the interlocks. should just be able to hook the hot to the starter positive and it should crank if the engine is ok, as well as the batteries...
just finished testing a starter yesterday... n of course, i bypassed the solenoid for the internal test...
