Bus 3D model project, help request

Good news! A lot of the issues with the physics going weird were the result of me being an idiot, and looking in the wrong places for the issues.

I have people testing a release candidate now, and if all goes well, it should be ready by the end of this week!

Aside from that, there are a couple last things I want to touch up on. One of which is again the doors.

They work fairly well, and high speeds + open doors means they get forced closed after a bit. But because of them being made that way, they have some play to them while closed. I'm going to go ahead and guess that, if you make a sudden turn at ~40mph, the doors aren't supposed to move a bit?

I'm gonna say once I got my electric doors adjusted correctly that they don't move during turns at 40mph or even 50mph -- that said, I probably wasn't making real sudden turns at those speeds... How many lateral G's would you like the bus to pull?

My doors end up moving a bit at ~0.6 g's

EDIT: Oh, do you know what the top speed in reverse is? :p I've got around 12mph

There's a fun opportunity!
Variables -- fer instance the ol' chysler 727 3sp automatic unlike most automatics could go into 2nd and 3rd gear ratios while in reverse...
Being a typical teenage delinquent I used to delight in getting my dads ol' station wagon into second gear backwards -- remarkable that I didn't flip it really...

Back to the bus...
I'm not sure how many different reverse gear ratios the Allison 2000 came in.
Seems to be a few, I'll go with the -4.49:1 used in the lighter duty versions
Then the rear diff ratio used. Mines 5.13:1
Assuming a 42" (11Rx22.5) tire...
Then you find a gear / speed / rpm calculator and plug and play...
https://spicerparts.com/calculators/transmission-ratio-rpm-calculator
That gives me 13mph at 2400rpm
and 14mph at 2600!

Bored enough to do the math but not bored enough to go out and wreck my bus... :whistling:
(I highly doubt I've gotten over 5mph in reverse yet...)

Oh yeah, that can be solved with this crazy thing called math!

So I guess what I have is about accurate :)
BTW. Someone made a mod to adapt a standard trailer hitch into a fifth wheel and well. I attached a tanker trailer to the bus and man, this CAT has some torque to it!

The standard tow hitch was bending all over the place though :p

your tow hitch was not standard?
attach a tow hitch to the frame rail with an adjustable height bar for the trailer attached?
now add high tinsel steel to that for a tow bar?

besides?
if that tanker trailer was loaded and running highway speed then the bus brakes wouldnt handle it?
so why not make a more realistic model of a bus towing something more realistic to the bus towing world?
my kids think games are fun.
i think real life? cause thats what i deal with?
i am hands on when things go wrong not computer modeling? if you want it correct in your video game then i want to see rolling down a hill.
my wife always said i went overkill so i would like to show her what subpar looks like?

Don't know what this is supposed to imply.

Anyways, the attachments are entirely up to the player. BeamNG has a variety of inbuilt trailers, and the tow hitch -> fifth wheel adapter is a mod.

I'm just having fun with the things that are possible :)

Wait a minute, two years andyou have not even stared on your buildout???

Sounds about right. :whistling::angel:

Heh :p
The base is laid out now at least. The difference with me is I first had to build the bus itself. A step most usually skip

I think I've decided on it. When I start "building" (modeling :p) the converted one, it'll be in the short, high headroom body. Less space to fill, easier to design that way, and I've just taken a liking to the green painted one I have here. I'm actually quite excited to get started on that :D

Oh wow .... I think your buildout will be a GREAT boost for this community. You *NEED* to do this, and start its own thread.

Also, (in a separate thread) it would be so cool for you to do a roof raise on this model so we can toss both off of the same hill and put to rest the question of "is a roof raise strong enough" ... so WE ALL do not have to toss our buses off that hill.

When you do start a thread, pease post a link to it here so we all know to follow. :)

Man, roof raises scare me :hide:

I worry about the filled in parts being fragile in a rollover situation. Maybe I've just seen some dodgy roof raises though :p

Now is you chance to overcome your fear ... you can show what happens.

I am assuming you can model the welding/construction techniques.
