If you do a little shopping on ebay you'll find out how much that engine is worth, on average. Don't compare it's value to rebuilt engines.

Okay, great information! We basically are trying to build up a counter-offer and need some evidence. Seller claims that the junkyard offered $4K just for the engine. $2150 sounds waaaay more in our budget.

I wouldnt bother, honestly. I'd move on. Doesn't sound like much of a bus or much of a seller.
Junkyard will give him scrap value. I'd let em.
