new bus is a 2000 IH bluebird, 25 feet long, flat floor, AIR CONDITIONING woo hoo!! cruise control that works, TE 444 hydraulic brakes and the dreaded at545

A bus door with a built in lock, never heard of this before, and it works

The tires look small.

I think it is, tires are 19.5 inch, plans are minimum required stuff to title as motor home, cover some windows and use it for camping with motorcycles

Looks like you could go up in tire size. If the engine has the grunt to pull them, it would add a fair amount to your top end and cut fuel usage too.

How does this work? Going from 19.5 to 22 tires lowers the engine RPMs and therefor cuts fuel usage? Do I have that right or is there another reason?

it has a 3.90 rear end, governed at 64 right now and will hold that pulling a small car, but I doubt it has the torque to handle bigger tires with that rear end, 190 hp te444, AT545. the combination seems to work good in this bus, will know when i go somewhere in it not towing the car behind it.
also since it is a flat floor bus, there is not much clearance over the rear tires to the floor

At the same engine rpm's the larger tires cover more ground. But, that said, some folks do go bigger so they can turn fewer rpm's at the same speed they used to run. But as noted, if you opt for more speed, the engine has to have enough torque to turn the tires faster. Likewise for gearing taller.

The door lock is a factory option the school district bought, it is built into the door, the key moves 2 rods that move out the top and bottom of the front door leaf since it overlaps the back door leaf, the rods go into holes in the top and bottom of the door frame. It would not be hard to duplicate on the back side of any 2 part door, pretty much just like an office cabinet lock

We have one bus with that style of lock as well....this particular bus is kind of an oddball in the fleet since it also has blue interior, air ride seat and LED exterior lights which are not options we normally spec on our buses.
