Looking to buy a bus within the next two weeks. I have 6k and I'm looking at two in particular.

(1) is a 99 bluebird dt466 w/ 99,000 miles for $6500

(2) 01 bluebird T444e with 200k and a new transmission for $3500

Buying second one would leave me with extra money to start conversion but would I be better off buying the 466 within longevity in mind?

Thanks.

On 15-20yr old busses you usually don't know if the miles are 99,000 or 199,000 Lots of seller like to use the lower number.

Ahh okay cause the odometers roll over? Or you get there and the odometer actually reads more than the ad says?

Most of the older bus odometers I have seen only have 6 places so the roll over to 000,000 every 100,000 miles. Usually on stuff 15+ years old it has more then 100,000 unless it had an unusual life.

A 1999 with 99,000 miles would only have been run 5,000 miles a year. That would be around 15miles every week day. Seems more unlikely then a seller showing the best angle.

are they full 40 foot buses or smaller? I like my T444E in my 28 foot bus. that first bus eats your entire budget...

most of the odometers count to 1 million miles, but navistar is NOTORIOUS for having dash clusters fail. so its not unusual for schools to replace them, swap them from one bus to another when getting rid of busses, etc..

with navistar 'E' engines you can read the computer and get the true mileage from there... if the ECM VIN number matches the bus VIN thenm theres a good chance the miles are correct in the computer..
T-444E is great in a short bus but pretty underwhelming in a full size 35-40 footer..

6500 for a 1999 bus is high... even if that has an MD-3060 transmission you should get that bus for 3500 or less..
