BUSJAMIN BUSSON

Been shopping around enough now to see some patterns. My favorite are the people who have so clearly just bought an auction bus and immediately listed it on FBM for a big markup without touching it, using the pictures from the auction listing.

Happy Monday y'all.

Exciting things are happening. We put a deposit down on a bus today and it's looking like we'll be going to get it in Missouri this weekend. Looking forward to putting this Welcome thread out of its misery and heading over to the build thread section.

2004 Blue Bird CS RE 3904
200k miles
Cummins 8.3 ISC
Allison 3060 w/6th gear unlocked
Tires '20-22 date code with a lot of tread
10kw Onan generator & 50A shore hookup with auto transfer switch
Full passthru storage

I'll get more into the details once we actually take possession of the bus. It's outfitted for detainee transport, presumably over a decent range based on how it's equipped. The interior demo will be more of a hassle but it should yield some decent salvage materials.

That looks like a really well equipped bus! It has the big A/C system too. It also has the Tropic double roof, and it looks like a couple of shore A/C units on the roof. With the right gears this bus would cruise @80 mph. It needs a paint job so that it does not look like an ICE bus. Good Luck!

Tropic double roof

So interesting that you mentioned the roof; I have been trying to figure out what that is, but not seeing anything online. Is it just a thermal barrier or does it serve some other purpose?

 too true. We're thinking a two or three-tone color scheme kinda like this:

Cheers!

The roof is a great feature; it was a requirement if you will on classic Series Land Rovers or original FJ Landcruisers with the floating panel up top.

Which prison are you purchasing it from?

Getting it from a dealer. He bought it at auction in SoCal and drove it back to his shop in Missouri. Guy has great reviews and seems like a straight shooter so I feel pretty good about the buy... $10k with fresh tires.

A prison bus can be a good buy most of the time. It's not as well used and often well maintained.

May require extra cutting though to remove the bars etc. Not a big deal though. An easy sacrifice for good bones.

Have a fun trip! I'm sure the process felt long and frustrating, but it's nice to see someone do their research, be patient, and (hopefully) end up with a bus that suits them perfectly. Well done and thanks for taking us along for the ride!

Congrats on finally purchasing one. I don't envy you on those Missouri Roads. They are horrible.

Look forward to seeing your demo posts.
