I bought a 44’ 2011 ex-prison transport bus in California. I drove it to Oregon and am planning to get the title registered in Oregon. It was a commercial bus in CA (title is from TN though). I am wanting to register it as a personal use motor home in Oregon.
Any tips/tricks I should do before attempting this? I’ve read up on the requirements and they are very vague. I feel like I could just register it as a personal use motor home and if I get the right person, they may not pay attention. The bus is has no seats (no longer a passenger transport) and has a bathroom. I’ve heard you can put “Not for Hire” on the doors to indicate non-commercial use (not sure if that’s fact or fiction). The regs say under 26k GVWR is ok without CDL.
I feel like I have a shot....am I way off base? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks Duston

Why not just tell them it's a Volkswagen Beetle? We have found many DMV employees that just rush the paper work through to get you out the door. If you get "lucky" and they change it without proof you will quickly find that no one will insure it because it doesn't meet the minimum requirements. Normal procedure is to get a "Commercial for personal use" policy to insure it as a bus while converting as many insurance companies will not insure it until it has been converted. Once it's been converted, convert the title to RV and then insure it as such.

"Not For Hire" is not a legal thing, people put them there so they are not bothered with requests for commercial business.
