Can I limp home 7 miles?

I do not have access to service Maxx.
I do have access to lots of parts houses down here. There is a fleetpride right up the street, and my local oriely stocks a lot of commercial parts.

servicemaxx is free, all you need is a laptop and a Nexiq clone.

doesn't matter how many parts houses you have nearby. these engines require you to have diagnostic software otherwise you will be changing parts like a blind man walking down the highway with no guide seeing eye dog.!

Not only can your see and adjust specific readings and setting with servicemaxx but you can also run automated tests that are necessary when troubleshooting. the results of these tests will hopefully let you know what parts/systems you need to look at.

another way to look at this, an OEM IPR for a DT466e is around $450 bucks. YOU DO NOT want to use the cheaper aftermarkets as they do not last an are inferior when it comes to functionality.

Cam sensor is around $250-$300 bucks.

I don't know about you but I don't have that kind of free chump change for "guess" testing.

So, when you checked the oil level, where was it?
It did not register on the dipstick. Being an optimist, I ordered a filter and many gallons of oil. I saw no reason to add gallons of new oil on top of old oil I was about to do an oil change on. Labor day I shall labor on an oil change and see how much oil I had left by the time I got home.

Well, it took a while before I got the parts and time to work on the bus. I replaced the oil supply line and oil drain line for the turbo, new gaskets all around, and did an oil and filter change. It will crank but not start. The only thing I did not do is reattach the air filter housing to the turbo.
After a short break, I will try putting the assembly back together and try starting it again. If that doesn't work, I guess it's time to start looking for a mobile mechanic who has dt466e experience.

If you were out of oil and refilled, the next thing that must happen is that the HPOP reservoir must be filled up and then you need to get the air out of the oil rail to the injectors.

Locate your oil pressure sensor, it should be right above the HPOP on the back side of the front cover.
Remove the oil temp sensor, if the reservoir is full then oil should come out of here. if no oil comes out, grab a funnel a carefully add some oil till it it full.
Put sensor back in and crank - 20-30 seconds. got to get the air out of the oil rail.

A mobile mechanic will do this too so save yourself some money for right now.
Let us know what happens...but not in 3 weeks please...

also, locate your IPR and make sure the connector is on securely. if it gets loose it could cause a no start.

HPOP self fills when cranking the engine on 7.3. I'd almost bet my farm that the 466e is the same. Crank for 20 seconds, then let the starter rest (to cool) for a couple minutes. Repeat a few times.

This is 100% true!

But, if their is an issue with the pickup tube such as a crack or loose tube then your oil might aerate and NOT fill up the reservoir or if the oil pump itself in in crisis, that too will affect the filling up of the reservoir.

The best thing to do is a visual confirmation that it is full other wise you might crank all day for nothing, and this simple step completely removes any guessing or unnecessary cranking of the engine.

Now if he had access to Servicemaxx, then he could just see the numbers on the laptop screen!

Bad news guys, the Facebook mechanics (sight unseen) say that I need a new head gasket, one said that I definitely need a new Turbo, and one said I need to replace my ICP valve.
I didn't even know my bus had juggalos.
I must have been hallucinating when I drove it around the block.

FB--> LMAO....

Roadlife, please take no offense. I'm gonna point out what I see from here:

Judging by your first posts (pop, turbo, rear seal, trying to run with LOW oil) I'd say you are a mechanical and dt466e "newbie". You barely know the front from the back. Take some time and reseach your engine type, probably via good YouTube vids. Deboss Garage might have your engine. Look for how the HPOP system works, it's very similar between your dt466e and a 7.3 powerstroke. Get lots of baseline knowledge before taking some more "long jumps" to land on conclusions that are false.

Very good advice!

I did the same and must confess that I learned how to put all the learning together here on this forum from others before me who have helped many, many others before me!

If you got any questions please just ask. there are many others here who are just filled with knowledge and willing to share!

to help you get started with your learning, study this page I uploaded.
First page only, second page a bit too advanced for you right now.
Research what each component is and what its function is.
Use this doc as a guide while on your journey of learning.
This guide also represents how it is all tied together, electrically.

All these components run at the same time and if any one has an issue, well that's why you need to learn what each component is supposed to do and then...you can go forward with trying to fix issues.

Do this one by one and pretty soon things will start to come together and soon it will start to make sense.

FYI- this current issue you had, IPR-lack of oil pressure - injectors - that what this learning event was all about, not the turbo. The turbo was an obvious failure.

I appreciate all the help and advice.
This is my 1st time working on a diesel or anything turbocharged .
I've been turning wrenches on old cars and motorcycles since I could reach the pedals , and held a CDL for a couple hundred thousand miles, but always had mechanics back at the barn to keep the truck running right.

I didn't know any of the terminology and this was the first time I took a wrench to a turbo.
The oil supply line to the turbo had broken which was spraying oil all over the passenger side of the engine bay. After I did the oil change and replaced the lines/gaskets I expected it to start right up. And after I finished filling it up with oil, it did.

I thought it was clear I was laughing about all the FB "mechanics" making expensive sight unseen diagnostics when ewo already got me up and running with the "yes you filled the oil, but what about 2nd oil" advice.
