I recently bought a school bus and have started converting it myself, but none of the insurance companies I call will cover a converted school bus that's been made into a camper. I tried all the big name insurances and even a bunch of small ones that insure regular campers. One of them told me that unless it was professionally converted and I could prove it then no one would insure me cause there are codes that have to be followed. This can't be true. Thousands of people convert their own busses. Insurance differs from state to state and I currently live in Kansas. Does anyone know an insurance company that will cover me otherwise I can't drive my new bus!

Did you happen to read the long insurance threads and find the contact info for Kelly Newsome with AllState who can refer you to an agent who insures skoolies all the time? Her number is 352-326-9300. Email: kellynewsome1@allstate.com

Or, Farm Bureau (who we use). Or National General (which specializes in that...and advertises in the bus conversion magazine). Or State Farm. Or Progressive. All have insured folks here.

Who did you try? Fear not...insurance is available.

Are you looking for full coverage or liability only? Probably makes a big difference. The guy at state farm figured he could insure it to 300k?! I figured he was nuts.
