Carwash soap drums?

I had to laugh when I went back and read this. It was suppose to say 55 gallon, but I sometimes forget I have arthritis in that finger and while I subconsciously aim for the right key but it actually hits the next one.
I hit the wrong key all the time...and it is just bad brain sparks...I didn't even see a typo...rock on

I've seen those square containers stacked about 4 deep in a Jiffy Lube. I asked about them and they said they were refillable containers that they don't throw out. They were a heavier grade tank and looked like they should be expensive.

it's not contained to just my right hand either.

I'm sure you're right. When I saw it the first thing that went through my mind was "Well that ain't no $10 carwash drum in 55 gallon."

That looks like my hand but I've got those huge freckles.

I've had a boxer break in my right hand that healed crooked. Don't punch horses. In my defense that was way back when I was still invincible. One of us learned a valuable lesson in that transaction.

Concerning the containers, they've got to be available somewhere. Those tanks make RV waste tanks look like junk. They were very rigid and appeared to be the ideal size to slip under the skirt of a bus. I'm guessing they were about 40 gallons. I'd also expect one of those tanks to weigh about 40 pounds. I can see the attraction for these tanks and I'm not even installing tanks.

Pickle Barrel

Google also finds squarish pickle/olive barrels 55 or 65 gallons is mentioned. Not sure who'd be using that many pickles or olives though.

Link to those. I'm not sure I like the idea of the full screw off lid for our applications. Restaurants and other food processing plants probably get their pickles in bulk like that. That's an awful lot of olives in one of those.

I would have used the square barrels if I had found (knew about) them, I got these 55 gallon drums at a local restaurant for $7 each, they get their dishwashing soap in them.

I spent another 40$ in plumbing fixtures and mounting hardware, the most expensive piece being the Valterra valves.

Have you checked any feed stores? We sell and install rain barrels as well as aquaponics. We use HDPE food grade that previously contained barbeque sauce or Worcestershire sauce. They are the same blue ones I see pictured in this thread. The guy we get them from gets them really cheap or maybe free from a food service company somewhere in the area. He usually sells them to us for $10, but we have paid up to $20 each at one point. We usually buy them in bulk from him. I have heard soda bottlers will often have them for the syrup. Soda bottlers and food service companies probably are anxious to get rid of them as I am pretty sure they are not reusable. It may just take "knowing a guy" who works there. Reselling them is probably pretty profitable. You just have to deal with meeting up with people who want to buy them. The guy I know works for a property management company and sells the barrels on the side. Cash only.

This is how I did it (mounted tanks to frame instead of body):

That's a very good way to mount tanks. Did you line the straps to prevent chafe?

Do you have a post with info on your leveling jacks? Are they electric and/or auto leveling?

Sorry for the sidebar.

The straps simply hold the tank in place and keep it from bouncing around and secondary safety measures. The frames are what holds the weight. I did not line the straps as the tanks cant move to chafe.

The leveling jacks are modifications of 8000Lb square tube jacks with custom frame mounts. You can read how I did them on my skoolie build named "Sojourner".
The jack mods start on this page http://www.skoolie.net/forums/f11/sojourner-8810-12.html

They will be manually operated as is most of the things on this build. I spent the better part of my career repairing boats and keeping all that automated fancy smanchy stuff going. We decided to adopt the KISS philosophy on our build but not compromising on quality.

If you have not read Sojuorner's build thread I HIGHLY recommend it.

I know that I will be following a number of examples from his build. I only wish that I was half the craftsman that he is......

If I wind up using the standard round 55 gallon barrels, instead of the square ones mentioned in this thread, I will certainly be duplicating his mounting method.
