what is the trick to getting off that pipe dope/caulk that resides on the floor and side walls all along the wall.
this stuff is very soft and gooey.
things I used to try and disolve it or remove it :

laquer thinner
goof off
caulk remover (from 3m and some other brand)
propane torch :D

the only thing that seems to work is a combo of nylon brush and thinner THEN pneumatic wire wheel.

so anybody else have a trick?

I have been using a old set of my wood chisels (razor sharp ones). Had to be careful to not dig into the metal. First I used an appropriate width one to scrape the caulk off (I was also scraping silicone caulk off at the same time) then I used "Kleen Strip Deglosser" to wipe up (scrub off) the remainder and clean the chisels. Before I started using the wood chisel, I was using a straight razor and paint thinner. I got tired of wearing all those bandaids.

I am just going to paint over it. I tried removing most of it. but its like peanutbutter and cant get t all out of the floor welds etc.
thanks

I just did this on mine. I got the bulk of it off with a flat bar and a hammer. Then I just went with a grinder with a 4 1/2" wire wheel to get the rest off. Worked well.
