Bought Bus looking for CDL Driver Hire from MI to GA

I bought a 40 foot bus out of North Ohio I need to transport to South Georgia to start converting it for my family. I had a CDL driver lined up, but they have last minute gone MIA. Does anyone have any recommendations of anyone to use? I have to pick it up by the 30th.

***ETA I am aware I could drive it home myself, but I have not driven anything like that before and jumping in for a 14 hour minimum trip for my first time without knowing how to drive it makes me uncomfortable when I am driving it somewhere I can learn to safely drive it first. I grew up driving horse trailers and am aware how quickly little things can turn big and how much knowing your vehicle can really save your biscuit. Goodness knows I have become even more cautious as I have grown up and lost folks too early. I would rather lose money on my conversion budget or take longer to save up more and be as safe as I can be, especially with this first transport.

Good luck.

If you're worried about safely driving it yourself, just take it super slow. Google will give you directions that avoid highways if you want. Why not do that 14 hour trip over 3-4 days? Maybe with an experienced buddy with you.

I took out a mailbox on my test drive. Over the first few months, I hit a ton of curbs. I was super careful not to put myself in dangerous situations until I knew what I was doing. Still, I would have done a trip that long if I avoided highways.

since trucking is getting busy again, be ready to pay pay pay for a CDL driver.. if it wasnt CoVid where id have to fly home (I absolutely refuse to fly ) then id drive it down over a couple day (night drive sincei t likely has no AC)..

With the tight deadline of the 30th, perhaps it makes sense to break this problem into two parts.

Part 1: getting the bus picked up and moved to a safe storage lot by the 30th.

Part 2: find a driver or decide to do it yourself to get the bus from the safe storage lot to your final location.

I know this adds more work, but you can probably do most of Part 1 by phone/internet, even if the bus gets towed for you. This then removes the deadline, and gives you time to find a driver or to find a way to get comfortable driving it.

At some point, you'll need to get behind the wheel and drive it.

I'll say of all the large vehicles I've driven, I feel like I have the best sight lines in a bus. There are so many mirrors, you can see almost everywhere. When turning, you can look down the side of the bus and see when the rear tire past any impediments, and then make your turn. It's a LOT easier than you think it will be.

Good luck,
jim

Is a CDL driver required? What about a valid licensed driver as a commercial DL isn’t something needed for a private bus. At least in IN

every state seems to have a different idea.. I know for a bus registered in ohio you dont need a CDL as long as you arent operating it for any type of commerce.. and "commerce" includes free events that are sanctioned or where you provide service.. so in essence if my friends and I want to hop in a bus and all go to the amusement parlk no CDL is required, but if I publish an event to go to the amusement park to the public with bus service included, they consider it commerce.. you can see how these lines are thin.... if you are operating it safely with good regular driver license and have it insured no one has been given any trouble (in the USA) driving across the country.. canada seems to be a different story..
