So as I'm charging my house batteries I notice the charger is looking like it's seen better days, been rode hard and put up wet for 30 years. So I decide I'll sent her to Skoolie rehab and freshen her up. Took the covers off and saw years of crude collected inside that needed to be blown out, Noticed the ammeter not working. Pulled it and found it to be a conductive unit, simple. Clear gauge cover was broken. So I hit the rusty wire mount with the blaster lightly, then hit with the ospho. Cut the side out of the package the Blue Seas fuse panel came in and made a new cover. Then chemically stripped, sand blasted and powder coated her in , of course, NSBCY. I plugged it in with the refreshed guage and it still doesn't work. I checked ebay and actuall found one, $45. I think I paid about $10 less than that for the whole thing. I remember buying it around when I started racing which was 30 years ago. According to the back of the ammeter showing a 12/91 date I was close, 28 years old and still works fine. Now she sports new clothes.
I was working on the batteries and solar cables and was up the 8' ladder and heard my big boy meow at the bottom. I said "come on up", he is the most skidish of the 4 and I'll be danged if he didn't climb that ladder right past me to get involved.
