Hey Travelers ...
I'm almost finished my first project on the mighty heifer. 182 to go.
I had to put a bathroom in to pass KY's imaginary RV rule and also for my Good Sam insurance policy.
A few things I've learned along the way.
  1. Use the same tape measure for whatever your working on.
  2. Lowe's 5.5' Premium lumber is neither premium nor 5.5. Some varied by almost .250. The guys at the mill didn't use the same tape measure?
  3. If you look for problems, don't be surprised when you find them.
I had more, but I forgot them as I was trying to put all of this stuff together. Mercifully so ...
Here is the chronology of bare-nekkit bus to bathroom'd bus :sterb188:
Okay, I can't get them in the order I want, but I don't think that matters in this instance.
I am currently working on a facade to cover the half-acre of broken plastic and hole-riddled sheet metal above the dash, that will be posted next. The inspiration for bullet point 3.
If you made it this far, thank you for reading my post and have a great evening!

Nice, clean, and spacious. It never ceases to amaze me how large 6 window buses seem to be inside but seem short on the outside. It's clean work, nice going.

Thank you Nikitis ... I appreciate that. It is larger than I thought. I'm not having trouble side to side when parking it, but I did clip an awning forgetting how tall it was. I know to look up now too * ouch * o_O

Beautiful work, looks really sharp. And that bathroom door is great. I bought myself a trusty new tape measure for the bus build.
Thank you, Steve! I found the differences in the tapes were miniscule, but over the course of the project, it adds up to a door that is too tight, or gaps that are more than I wished for. I wish I paid more attention on woodshop, 1974.

Really kool you privy door. And just remember just because you installed a toilet does men it must be used. (No use = No need to clean).
That's my thought process. That is why we went compost with a bag and no plumbing. Regular usage is not the idea. But for some reason, the insurance company and the State are requiring it for proper certification.
That said, I'm sure I will be glad it's in there at some point. That's inevitable as 2 individuals who quality for 55+ before-4:00 Buffet discounts everywhere, lol, so I still have a little finishing work to do to make it usable.
Same thought process for the shower. We are going to use a long sink hose but run the hose out of the window and use a collapsible outside shower tent from Amazon for those rare times.
We are going to spend a few days in the beast over this holiday to do a safe, dry run that will bring any living-area issues out so I can fix them before we head out for the real adventures.
I made - not a mistake - but miscalculated some of the building issues that go along with these. Some jobs just don't make sense to tear out what the previous owner did. I know more for the next one.
