Clearance Light Covers?

So I’m trying to pinpoint why we have water that is gathering inside only one (thankfully) of the clearance lights on the front of the bus. The water is coming in through one of the two screws that secures the lights to the bus. I am going to put ProFlex over the screws from the interior and maybe the exterior as well because they won’t need to be removed unless we redo the light fixtures altogether someday.

I think the water may simply becoming in around one of the edges of the plastic amber light cover itself.
My question is can anyone help me track down replacement covers? I’ve tried googling all the printed information but only able to find one used one on eBay.

The amber light cover has the following specs printed on it:

LS 358
SAE P2PC 84
KD 556 DOT

Also, do they make ones that come with rubber gaskets to seal the plastic edge of the cover? Seems that would be best solution.

Wire brush the metal covers and spray paint em black. Nearly no money will be spent. Have you pulled them off yet? That's key to fixing the leaking.
Take some seam sealer and dab it where the fasteners go through before you install the lights. Also run a small bead of it around where the light/gasket will go. Or just use the seam sealer if there's no gasket.
That should hold for 15-20 years.

Thanks for the link! They have some good options but not exactly what I’m looking for. I will save this site if we are going to install new ones though- seems like fair prices!

I've tried out a few different replacement clearance lights, and as far as I can tell all of them leak a little bit - through the screw holes, through the hole the wires go through, and between the cover and the backing part. The ones with the sort of paper gaskets leak, and if you replace the paper with a rubber gasket, they leak worse somehow. The ones that come with rubber gaskets to begin with leak.

The only way I've found to have non-leaking clearance and ID lights is to use seam sealer (Dynatron-550) around the screw holes and wire holes when installing the lights. I don't like it because I wanted to be able to install all my lights early and then paint later and they're difficult to remove once they've been glopped up with seam sealer.

Hopefully somebody else can point you to some light assemblies that are actually waterproof from the get-go. I have failed in the task, myself.

I bought LED marker lights from AutoZone. The cover is factory sealed. the Back comes with a nice rubber gasket. So far (only 6 months) no leak.


I just tried searching for "LED marker light" and "LED clearance light" on AZ's website, but they did not come up.

They were cheap. I had to go to two locations to get all needed (5 red, 5 amber)

That’s really interesting. And sad too lol. Especially to hear your experience with ones that have a rubber gasket leaking worse somehow
I’m going to try out proflex around all the screw holes that come into the interior and around the light cover to see if that fixes it. I will post pictures/results when I can. I’ve had good luck with the ProFlexRV Sealant on other applications so far (skylights, a couple of bent rivets, roof deck, etc).

Update w/ProFlex

Here are som pictures form the interior and what I’ve done with sealing the holes with ProFlex RV Sealant. We had a hammering rain yesterday and last night and this morning we didn’t have any water seeping in through the light that was subject to drips. The ProFlex takes 6 days to fully cure but the product description says it can repel some water upon application.

I still want to seal around the outside of the light fixture, both the plastic cap and the metal housing, but I won’t do that until we are guaranteed a few days without rain here in Pensacola FL
