Combating the Summer Heat

For the record, those rooftop A/C units are called "self contained units" (because the evaporator and condenser are in the same box, like a window unit)

Are you going to put a generator on the trailer?

I'm wondering if anyone here has taken the original bus system, combined it all into 1 box using a small gas engine to drive the compressor?

those would be called APU's like on a refrigerated trailer.
auxilliary package units.

Noted, however, refrigeration systems and air conditioning/hvac systems have different requirements.

Still wondering if any one has "recycled", so to speak, their bus air conditioning system ( compressor, condenser, evaporators, fans) into a self contained system with a small engine driving the compressor.

or

has anyone just hooked up the compressor to a small engine and re-routed the refrigerant lines and left the rest of the system intact/inplace?

Either one would allow the use of the a/c regardless of whether the bus engine is running. Probably require a fairly large "small" engine with electric start. cheaper? too much noise? too much space?
