My Bluebird must be a 74 inch one. With 1 inch polystyrene and 3/4 inch plywood on the floor I can walk through with an inch or two to spare. That's with my shoes on -- then I be 6 foot tall!

Mine is 74" without the OEM 3/4" plywood floor, vinyl flooring and ceiling sheet metal. --- must be shorter than 6' me thinks.

the extra space would help with cabinets and the like.

Motor coaches and city transits are altogether different.


Skoolies come in two flavors; conventional; (dog-nosed) and transit (flat nose). Transit is not to be confused with city buses.

Yeah, the overhead space is an option weighing on my mind, but...I was planning to use it for bookshelves anyway, and my library needs downsizing as it is. Sacrifices :-(

Yeah, took me awhile to figure that out too. The skoolie transits are the ones to get. They have the storage lockers underneath. Used as field trip, band, activity buses. Some of the buses have pass-thru storage. Pass-thru from passenger side to driver side. Mine are pass-thru from one door to the other but not across the bus. No idea if there's terminology to cover that or not. Also don't know if any buses have dividers on the storage or not. Mine measure 24 tall x 24 deep x something like 60 long. Two doors, one compartment. I have one set per side. I'll probably add a second set. Can't have too much lockable storage.

Found one of my earlier notes on my desk. Says 74 1/2" from floor to ceiling rib so that's bare metal to bare metal.

4 Window Shorty Floor Plan

I have to say that after looking through the floor plans posted here that I am embarrassed to post mine! But here is a simple floor plan for a 4 window shorty as built out by the previous owner. Works great but only for 2 people, and I have to get the drivers seat to swivel.

Nice. I like the plans that make you zig zag thru the bus instead of a bowling alley. Not sure how practical they are for living or heating/cooling but still.

Is this with a roof raise? I see that overhead storage there...

Also, may I use the bare bones side and overheads as reference, for the measurements? It helps to be able to get a visual instead of just lists of numbers

I dunno if we allow that south of the border. I've seen plenty of single 53s. Plenty of twin but I don't think I've seen twin 53s. They are always shorter.

They are called California Doubles they are popular out west but not further east as 2 53' doubles would be very difficult (not impossible) to maneuver.

On the eastern part of the double pup trailers are common they are double 24' trailers.

The semi trains can be as long as triples and are regulated to an overall length of 105'. I was quite surprised to see them for the first time. I know they are popular in Aus., where the longest one is 160' and runs 24/7

Bracing the motorcycle?

this is my idea anyway

The idea for this was to pull my motorcycle into the back and tie it down for a trip.

This is a major concern for me as well.
I have a 2019 Indian Chieftain Darkhorse, It's long and heavy, how do you tie down your bike? I want to make sure it's very secure!

I'm looking at possibly doing a Transit bus since I'm 6'2" and never really fit in the school buses without making my head go crooked.
I may have the bike goes sideways directly in from the rear wheelchair access doors.

I use a wheel chock in the front and use the holes in the chair rail for ratchet straps.

My 03 Kawasaki Vulcan is 8' long and will not fit sideways in the bus.
