Maximum width 102" [8'-6"] and 75' bumper to bumper in Ontario, not counting mirrors...well that's what it was 17 years ago when I was driving.

Sounds about right on width. D.O.T. should have something easy to find. Semi trailers are set to 53' in length but that's with a swivel hitch. Any wider/longer and it becomes a building since you won't be able to make any turns.

The company I work for hauls twin 53' vans, mostly to Quebec. Approx 120'.

I dunno if we allow that south of the border. I've seen plenty of single 53s. Plenty of twin but I don't think I've seen twin 53s. They are always shorter.

its a floor lay out "as built" for the 40ft Bluebird FE that a dealer got me. thought it might help someone in the planning stage.

Here's my floorplan. I drew it up in AutoCAD Architecture, which is an expensive program but you can get the "educational" edition for free. I took architecture in high school for 2 years and learned to use it there. I would not suggest using AutoCAD just for a little bus plan because it isn't super user friendly.

This plan was made mostly with me and my cat in mind, but I am willing to live in it with a significant other.

I'll be mapping out on top of the bus and under it in the future.

Here is my initial floor plan.

It hasn't changed much except to add or take away a small amount here and there as I go along with construction.

I also have multiple level plans that show plumbing, electronic, LP gas, tanks, etc.

I don't like the sitting area, table with two benches is the way to go. I don't see a shower. that's the lowest drain so you need to look under the bus to see if it will go where you want it, if its a rv crapper you need to do the same for it. good luck, I drew mine out 50 times now and it keeps changing.

From the other pictures I see in your album, you have a rear engine bus, right? That bed configuration will work, but is not the best use of space on that style bus. I would turn it 90 degrees and put storage under it. The will give you more floor space.

I don't have a bus yet, so take this for what it's worth. I plan to do the master bedroom in the same orientation as the OP's. I don't see that there's a lot of difference in building out a platform and arranging storage underneath for a mattress whether it's in landscape or portrait orientation, so to speak. And, I am dead set against a setup that requires one person to climb out over the other to hit the head in the middle of the night.

That's my thinking.

My wife and I have 4 kids. I am desperately trying to figure out this bunking situation. This is her project, I'm doing the work, but its her baby. She really wants to put a queen bed in there, but with all the kids I can't figure out how to do all the bunks and have room for everything else. Any suggestions?

There is a "trucker" bed that is effectively half a queen bed (30" wide)
I plan on using a foam mattress and cutting a queen in half. That leaves some room for an aisle. If you stack them on either side you may be able to make that work.

Find a traveling circus and sell some/all of the kids. Do it while they are young and cute for top dollar. I've got one that's 20 yrs old still on my couch. I can't pay to get rid of her.

This is the Navy bunk that he's talking about. Google "navy coffin lockers". Actually if you can get the real thing it would be kinda cool. I've no idea what they weigh tho. While a 1 1/2" to 2" mattress, especially of the US Navy version isn't terribly comfortable, they're young and don't need much. The lockers are surprisingly large when you go to storing all of your stuff.

Some people are putting a bunk above the driver's area, more as a child's bed. The rear of the bus could also have a single high bunk at the same height as the front. Then regular bunk beds somewhere. It you two had a murphy bed it would fold up out of the way during the daytime.

When my kids were young I was going to use a bunk bed that had the futon on the bottom so it could be a couch during the day time. That was a twin on the top bunk and a full size futon mattress on the bottom, effectively sleeping three. If your kids are small they might like hammocks. My kids thought hammocks were a special treat while camping. I've used several hammocks in my bus but found I need to lay flat.
