Cool old bus

Thanks D07. It turns out that Dodge contracted with an outside vendor to build these things though I don't know how many. This particular one sold for $10,000 plus another $2,000 in buyer's fees etc. I'd place the condition of the unit at about 5 on a 1-10 scale so I was surprised at its value. Jack

While the old Dodge camper is real, I'm becoming skeptical of its origins. It looked like another sample was to be seen on the internet--one with orange flames etc painted on the body. What makes me suspicious is the fact that both the "flamed" version and the version I was in today have the same battery operated rubber fish mounted in the same position inside the camper. Fat chance of that happening especially since the battery operated trophies didn't appear on the market until the 1990's.

I'll keep searching but I am doubtful of the veracity of the story of Dodge hiring out such a rig! Jack

I think you are right.
The flamed job shows up 100 times to one in google images.
I suspect it is a one off home built job.
Possibly a conversion done to a new car, but likely not.

I am thinking the owner of the flame version was advised to get rid of the flames and make it look more like a period correct camper.
And it would sell for more than if left looking like a love shack for hippies.
