Now that we've had a little venting, let's get back to the helpful community we all love. I liked that for a while we stemmed into philosophical debate. I also like posting of articles that we can each choose to read or not ... our choice (i.e. without the content being copied and pasted).

Personally, I liked the link to the Whitehouse announcement. It is perfectly germaine to all of us here because it addresses the U.S. plan *AT THIS TIME* ... which will have an effect on all of us. I was actually going to go searching for the link today. From what I understand (and read), the linked page is just a summary overview of the full report which is some 16 pages long. I'll post a link to the complete report if/when I find it.

PLEASE ... anyone finding it before me, post it here.

Yep, same where I work. They bitch about everything ,but godforbid they are told they have to do something. Blows my mind.
my roomate works for Amazon warehouse.. there have been 2 cases in his building that are known.. they didnt even test the whole building.. they simply looked at the cameras to see where each subject had been and tested only those people shown to come in contact with them... never mind the fact the boxes couldve contained the virus..

a lot of people in those buildings dont want to work.. they have jobs but dont want to work. . they clamoured for PPE and got it. now many of them are complaining about wearing the PPE and complaining about having to be fever tested when they come or go from the building.. simply put yes Bezos can do some. things better... However there are a lot of people that want to sit home do nothing and get paid, my roomate mentions often that the work eithic is non existent.. many workers complain about being broke yet take every bit of UPT (UnPaid time) they accumulate.. personally I think that if anyone gets tested in a warehouse as positive then the workers should be able to take some paid time off. however not close the building for 2 months.. and everyone should be given Covid testing once per week for 4 weeks.. but Bezos doesnt seem to think that its worth it to get them the ability to test.. I see it on both sides here.. lazy workers greedy owner... not all workers of course are lazy.. there are plenty who have good work ethic but simply want to be safe.. there are a lot of vulnerable people working there.. its not just all young fit and healthy millenials in these places.. in fact amazon has some really good health insurance for its warehouse workers so many tolerate the heavy liftning and fast rates because they need the good coverage..

@Native, I spent a fair bit of time today looking for a report with more details than were in the White House link I posted, but I didn't find any links to any more details. I suspect that may be all there is. But I probably will make a fresh start and look some more tomorrow.

no masks or gloves- at least they're gathering closely. I'd like to see more hugging and high fiving among each other though-
https://www.wesh.com/article/protesters-gather-orlando-calling-to-reopen-florida/32190987

Hopefully next time they have a bigger rally.

There was an ad for a rally in Idaho today that told people: “We feel that wearing face masks and gloves is counterproductive to the movement, and should be avoided.”

I think it is really nice of them to volunteer to be guinea pigs like that. That is a very worhtwhile project. It should be socially beneficial. I too hope the rallies just keep getting bigger for the next few weeks. The more guinea pigs that volunteer the better.

It's too bad and so sad, but this virus thing looks like it will go to a worst case scenario. If we all did serious social distancing simultaneously, for like 2 months, the virus would be next to dead. If we go out too early it's back, so this lockdown would be just a waste of time, literally. But some people just flat out refuse to believe in biology.

If we let it run, taking our foot off the back of its neck, so to speak, it will be back big time -- a winter of death. They are finding treatments for COVID-19, and working on a vaccine, though that will work better for the wealthy and well connected in the short-term.

I saw news articles about Remdesivir clinical trials. I sure hope it’s as good as they are making it sound.

I am not anything even close to an expert on epidemiology, but I have read a bit. There is a concept called reservoirs, which is easy to grasp from the name. It looks to me like the states of Florida, Michigan and Idaho are effectively being voluntered to be reservoirs by a few activists without the knowledge or consent of many or most of the citizens of those states. I think that is highly unfortunate.

I am at high risk for a number of reasons, most of them on the standard list actually. Oregon is an open carry state. During ordinary times I usually see no need to carry a pistol.

But these are not ordinary times. I want to to get a legal opinion on what I can do to protect myself. I think I should be within my right to shoot someone who comes to close too me without a mask on. I intend to get a legal opinion or two.

Yes, Remdesivir sounds like it might be good for COVID-19, but it was developed for Ebola and the only study of its effectiveness against that disease was abandoned after they could see Remdesivir was increasing mortality in their test sunjects.

So even if it works in humans for COVID-19, and it does work in lab animals, it will be a fairly long time before it comes into general use. But it is very good at this point to know that there is something already developed that seems like it will work with humans. And even more reassuring to know that studies are already underway in the US, France, and China. Apparently there are no early signs of increased mortality.

Thank you for that!

So far, about all I can find is a related page on the Whitehouse.gov site which is a slight elaboration of the link you posted. It is a Fact Sheet.

Shutdowns were pointless all along

This article in the American Family Association today (well, Friday) indicates that COVID-19 runs its course in a society whether shutdowns are in place or not. Our actions do not seem to matter to the virus. It would seem that it dies off after 8 weeks on its own. It is an interesting read and does provide a little hope.

Overall, we rate the American Family Association Questionable based on extreme right positions, promotion of propaganda and conspiracies toward LGBTQ, poor sourcing, a lack of funding transparency, multiple failed fact checks and several third party sites labeling them as a hate group."

They're an extremely right wing anti gay organization.

Your article gives one person's opinion. Nothing more. That person is an Israeli cyber security expert not a medical professional.

American Family Association sounds like a religious lobby. A far right one. Not surprised they support the leadership's silliness.

Seems they're very active in "fighting homosexuality". Not cool, man.

The American Family Association (AFA) says it promotes “traditional moral values” in media. A large part of that work involves “combating the homosexual agenda” through various means, including publicizing companies that have pro-gay policies and organizing boycotts against them.

“Homosexuality is a poor and dangerous choice, and has been proven to lead to a litany of health hazards to not only the individuals but also society as a whole.”
— AFA Action Alert, July 20, 2012.

I don't think they're a credible source of corona information. Sounds like their ideas are old, tired, and based on principles that were in place when segregation was still the norm.

Gonna put my money where my mouth is. Sandi aka WanderWoman found a place that's got anitbody tests and is using them. Gona cost me $165, but for that money I can know in 15 minutes if I can go work/volunteer/etc. I plan to volunteer at the hospital if possible.
That's the best I can come up with to help the situation from where I'm sittin.
