This pretty much sums up my thoughts about the mask "debate". DO NOT click on it if you're averse to cursing. He's a NYC comedian and uses swear words pretty liberally.

I've seen that analogy before and figured I'd add.

Just because you have pants on doesn't mean diddly if they're around your knees.

Also wearing insulated overalls is better then panty hose for protection from pee.

The same thing applies with masks. Below the nose doesn't work, and that's something I see so often I wonder why they even bothered.

Along with cloth masks, they're better nothing, but not by much. An n95 or better is what you want to use.

"not by much" is where science says you are wrong..

ECCB's analogy rings pretty true along with the science..

aerosolizing the virus occurs when you breath out (esp through your mouth).. a lot of people breath through their mouth.. esp larger people or those who have allergies, etc..

aerosolized virus can travel further and is easier breathed in..

Cloth face masks do a very good job of preventing aerosol.. even though droplets can breach cloth masks, they often dont get very far on the EXHALE.

yes you can easily INHALE aerosolized virus through cloth masks, if you dont aerosolize it in the first place or its minimalized then the Inhaler has not much worry..

with 40-60% of infected people Never getting sick.. ever.. thats a lot of people potentially running around with no idea they have the virus.. if everyone masks up including those who have zero symptoms, then we have a lot better chance of arresting the virus before it even makes to the air or a table service, door, grocery cart, etc...

N95s are wonderful. but they are tough or expensive to get.. if we told everyone to only wear N95's then we would have many less people masking up at all even though science says it helps..

Been feeling achy the last 24hrs, wasn't too concerned as i was working pretty hard outside yesterday ripping out a stump, and doing some yard work.
This AM (18hrs ago) digestive issues began (which I thought wasn't a symptom but turns out it is.)
Fast forward 12 hours, chills begin, but no temp, actually low temp (97.3),
Fast forward 4 hours temp 99.9,
Fast forward 2 more hours temp is 100.4. Still have chills, aches, digestive issues, and a warm forehead, but don't feel too bad overall.

No other S&S, most notably no shortness of breath or cough. Could be Covid-19, might be the Flu, might be something more minor, might even be out of my system by morning. CDC recommends quarantine but no test/hospital visit based on my current S&S which seems reasonable.

I gotta admit, I was still taking things seriously but getting a little complacent, always wearing a mask out and about, washing hands regularly, and going out as little as possible, but just mentally a bit more complacent and not as hyper aware of what I touched.

Just checked the numbers, new cases in California (and many other states) are still steadily rising, roughly 3000 new cases reported in the state yesterday.

Maybe, its nothing or something minor and I'll feel fine in the morning, maybe not, either way, its a good reminder for me not to be too complacent or cavalier.

Oh man 3000 new cases in a day is bad. Keep us updated on your condition. Hoping its just something minor and it goes away soon!

If you do get to a point where breathing is affected seek medical help immediately.

positive energy for you to feel better soon!! stay hydrated! people ive talked to that have had this stuff say hydration with water, pedialyte, or sport drink helped them keep things shiny side up!

as for case numbers.. expect to see exponential spikes in the next couple weeks.. the protests in american cities are creating huge amounts of close contact.. less than half of protesters and even fewer PD officers are wearing masks.. with all the shouting and sweating and sharing of water bottles on hot summer days this will likely lead to some high numbers..

more than ever its important to mask up and wash up out and about as there will be a lot of carriers without symptoms who are contagious but not yet sick..

The protests are a good way to spread it. From what I'm seeing a LOT more protesters are wearing masks than are wearing them in my community.
A buddy of mine played a concert yesterday. And two friends of our went out for new tattoos followed by bar hopping last night. Was on FB earlier deflecting all the angry family and friends who are on a campaign to convince my wife I'm leading her "down a dangerous road of communism". I sure wish they'd had a quality education like I did. They'd actually understand what communism really is- and it aint wearin an effin mask!
I just link em to that Ticked off Vic video about "Americans who aren't making this easy".

Communism? Jeez man, wait until they find out about the Devil's Lettuce! They probably think you guys are Satanists at this point. :whistling:

Oh man, I had those exact symptoms 6 weeks ago... super achy and then a fever for 2½ days and ZERO energy  but never any cough or shortness of breath...
Almost 2 weeks before I had full "power" going and my bowls getting right...
I will presume a rhinovirus of some sort -- stomach crud for sure...
My wife didn't get sick, which is weird 'cause we eat all the same food...
Awkward quarantining myself in my own house from my wife -- she moved into the guest bedroom and left me food at 'my' bedroom door... :ermm:
It was a wake up call for sure!

With an unhappy butt -- stay hydrated for sure -- dehydration makes everything worse...

Hope you feel better soon!

Boy, do I heartily recommend not having a Facebook account.

A friend of my parents (in her 80s) caught coronavirus in early March and had all the bad symptoms but survived it. She was on a plane filled with a bunch of skiers who had it (apparently this bunch was reported early on as a source of many infection vectors), with the dude right next to her coughing away without even covering his mouth. Her husband (who lives with her) somehow did not contract it; I don't know the details, but somehow they successfully quarantined themselves from each other, despite sharing a one-bedroom, one bathroom apartment.

I really assume I didn't have 'rona because I'd have been contagious for days before symptoms but my wife didn't get sick. Isolating me after symptoms show is kinda like closing the gate after the cows are out...
So while my wife could be asymptomatic that would also mean all her co-workers are asymptomatic... math doesn't support that...

I wish there was reliable testing to know but that's one area where OH is lagging...

we severely Lack in ohio.. you still pretty much have to be referred by a doctor to get a test.. I want a simple antibody test, I cant even get that.. well havent checked for a few weeks maybe I can now to see.. .. I was sick a couple months back and I even told my doc that someone got sick in a coffee house I hung out in 3X a week.. but nope without a referral from them no covid test!..

Next time you're in FL you can get a test. They're only $120. :banghead:
Pisses me off they're charging so much. And they're open like one or two days instead of all week.
They're scaling back testing here!

I asked my primary physician for a prescription and took that to quest and got the test. Mine said negative but supposedly they are only 50% correct

The antibody test is only 50% accurate. In other words, you'd get equivalent results from flipping a coin.
