of course no more was mentioned about the columbus bus other than I heard its driver / owner was found and investigated but no more after has been published about it..

I did my first dine-in experience this morning.. my roomie and I went to a local restaraunt that its a large space.. inside distancing at the dining room was very good and tall barriers placed between the booths.. I really hope even after Covid they leave those booth barriers up..

sadly though my roomie and I were the only ones other than employees that walked in or left with masks on.. its epxected to see masks off at the tables as you are eating and drinking but to see the "breakfast mob" beginnging (we went early) as we left and if there were any masks in the people coming in I sure didnt see them..

this restaraunt isnt rural but its at the edges of the city in a suburb considered "country".. sadly it seems the more "country" areas are much less masking than when in the city areas.. the more rural areas are where the virus is seemingly spiking now as its made its way from the cities.. apparently those communities felt isolated and didnt need to take precautions previously??

I actually feel safer going to the city now vs the farther out areas as masking and distancing seems much better practiced.. unfortunately many of the places in the city I like to attend have been destroyed by the protests or are closed because of protests.. boarding up windows and installing metal bars so they dont get looted.. several of the coffee shops where I hang and write code had their patio furniture stolen or destroyed and dont have the $$ to replace it or arent because they are afraid of it getting damaged again.. patios are where i feel the most comfortable CoVid and body-wise (as much as I preach A/C in my bus I really Hate sitting inside with it here in ohio as its well-overused)..

many businesses in the urban city have made masking a requirement to enter.. and in a couple coffee places you can unmask at your seat but they require you mask up to walk around inside (restroom, to order, etc).. they are both wide open spanning spaces.. I feel comfortable inside those buildings.

hopefully the rural areas realize masking at least indoors is important..

I do have issues with outdoor fitness exercising / walking / biking with masks on.. I have numbers to prove that one with increased heart rate and lower oxygen saturation levels on my meters. I havent yet found a fitness friendly mask.. ive tried paper medical style, foam, and cloth.. they say risk is very low in those situations. and I dont plan to get into any outdoor (or indoor) crowd situations..

masking in the grocery stores has gone up.. I try and order online most of the time but sometimes I need to go in..

DONT USE THE U-SCAN !!

well at least not at walmart or kroger in central ohio.. I have noticed that at the regular registers the employee cleans the card reader and register after each customer.. I have watched at least 4 or more people use the same U-Scanner without it being cleaned between customers..

Its similar here. The places treating covid like its real are in more urban areas. The "country" folks are dead set against wearing masks at all here.
I'd love to find mandatory mask supporting businesses. They'd be getting my business from now on.

Georgia was over 1000 new cases yesterday.
Not sure if it's a statistical blip or if this is the protests showing up (we've gone from 600 to 750/day in two weeks). Crisis should be around 4000 cases/day for Georgia. Interestingly, the Atlanta Journal Constitution is still doing an awful of covering this - they only rarely contradict the obviously false statements of our governor and provide very little analysis. 11 Alive News does the most covid coverage, but their coverage tends to emphasize that this is no big deal - they've been doing "independent analysis" taking the governor's numbers and then doing all kinds of averaging, etc. to make it look like numbers aren't increasing.

Florida's crisis should be around 8000 cases per day. 2500 cases yesterday is concerning. The state is also being accused of manipulating statistics: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.in...-publishing-her-own-covid-19-stats-2020-6?amp

I'll be worried if we get to 5 or 6 thousand a day here. Well ****- I'm already worried!

8000/day is a crude back of the envelope estimate of when Florida would need to request outside resources based on New York's city. Reality could be a fair bit lower or higher. Hopefully, the governor recognizes the trajectory before then because cases/day lags about two weeks behind actions and hospitalizations/deaths lag about 4 weeks behind.

Out of 300+ million people in the country, why is nobody posting their own analysis of when we are at crisis?

the protests are certainly a concern with CoVid, esp since more and more studies indicate that heavy breathing, singing, shouting, etc are some of the most dangerous activities.. masking was at best 50% in the protests and even less when things got louder.. a couple friends of mine went and said they started out masked but felt they couldnt be heard so they unmasked as the evening went on..

im stil la firm believer that hospitalizations are the number to watch.. without a vaccine en masse Flatten-the-Curve is simply designed not to stop cases but to help with over-running hospitals.

Arizona is one to watch as they are seeing hospitalization rates going up.. one medical article i was reading stated that Dehydration apparently Helps the virus get a stronger hold on a body.. and / or weakened immune system from people who are overheated / Dehydrated can cause complications making it run rampant in the body.. makes sense that arizona would experience high rates of hospitalized patients as its extremely easy to dehydrate this time of year..

rewmember those journals I and others read are not verified and they are not "official" they are really designed for doctors to talk to doctors and are observations.. I like reading them not because they are gospel but because they give a Non-politicized view of what is being seen in the field.

ECCB - you would probably have to go into Orlando Proper to see businesses requiring masks.. and even then you may not simply because tourists for some reason dont deem it necessary.. as the attractions begin to re-open im guessing masking there will go down.. Luckily you are out of the tourist zone.. even with masking low where you live at least you arent in the area where People turnover is High..

some of the thigns I read about Super-Spreader events are where a person was quite mobile and never knew they had the disease. . more and more data suggests over 50% never get sick.. thus never get tested.. why get tested if you feel fine and have no reason to believe you were exposed? (there are reasons but ultimately Asymptomatic Super spreader events have occured).. some medical reads are that asymptomatic individuals transmit less viral load than symptomatic but still can pass it..

another good read is that asymptomatic people develoip anti-bodies at a much lower % than those that got sick.. but somehow their bodies are immune as some knew they were exposed more than once but have never gotten sick but tested positive more than once.. those people's bodies are what some medical scientists want to study more to figure out how they are immune without antibodies.

if people take out the sensationalism and politics and drama, then there is lots to be learned and life can still be lived with caution and common-sense..

Drama and politics, covering up numbers or inflating numbers to push an agenda seems to be the latest "trendy" thing.. which is toxic in and of itself..

Our governor is as transparently a sock puppet as there could be.
He's already said he's not changing anything no matter what the numbers say.
And they're desperately wanting ppl to think this is a "second wave" that's mostly due to "farm workers and nursing homes" even though its clearly still the first wave and its clearly not just farm workers and nursing homes anymore.
The few officials who have tried to "steer the ship" are met with harsh retribution. Often they're fired or forced to resign.
I'm surprised Fauci is still in his position. Anyone who talks science and numbers during a big whitewash gets all sorts of flak. Look at how many conspiracy videos there are about doctors and anyone trying to speak up or give any guidance/leadership.

Caution and common sense aren't too common these days in a lot of folks.

But we sure love walmart's pick up procedure. Our loader was coughing as she loaded our stuff. But we had no worries with our windows up an we sterilize or store everything in a dedicated space. Veggies are washed immediately then put into dry storage. We've found that most produce lasts a lot longer in a box on the counter than it does in the fridge. :thumb:

I keep forgetting your governor is not the same as mine. They sure do sound exactly alike.

Walmart also has free delivery here. It's one of my other gigs I do. I'm surprised you don't have it there. Walmart pays us for it but doesn't charge the customer (I pull up just like you would for picking up, get your groceries loaded into my car instead of yours)

Do you ever wish you could have put one more year in Alaska instead of being down here during all this?

Ours has that but not for SNAP aka food stamp money.
They load it all into the bed of my utility truck so no worries about it being in the car with us.
We live about 4 minutes away so our cold stuff does fine back there.

Good to hear, man.
I didn't know you're an educator. I thought you were in law enforcement?

LOL you are correct CB, I am in law enforcement... I was talking about my own kids and helping them with their distance learning!!! total pain. It is done now until the fall. hooray

Ah, I see. Didn't even think about that!

I know Jack is in both law enforcement AND education.

I love Georgia - it's where I grew up and where my family lives. But, Alaska is amazing - we want to move back.

Politics are dysfunctional there too, but in a different way.

But there's definitely less chance of catching covid-19 there. Although on base your little closer to each other so maybe not.

There are also very few medical facilities. If you need a specialist, you need to travel to Anchorage or Seattle. Anchorage is a 6-1/2 hour drive. Seattle is a 2000 mile plane flight.

Which Jack.... I am in law enforcement and my wife is in Education, which means I am the lowest paid teachers aid in the district!

We ventured to the greater Phoenix area this past weekend to see my in-laws. I was very surprised to see how little mask wearing was going on. Businesses are hit and miss with employees. The surprise was in the food industry. About half of the places I noticed the employees didn't wear masks. I would guess that only about 20% of the general population was wearing masks. The only business that I saw that required patrons to wear was a nail salon. It's no surprise when you hear that those Urban areas are on a rapid rise in numbers reported. I also saw a sign at one of the hospitals in that area that said they were not taking any walk in patients, only emergency vehicle transports in because they were about out of bed space. They posted a list of the next closest place you could go. Sure made me grateful that I live in one of the most remote rural places in America! We are still at only 3 positive recovered cases from two months ago, and zero riot/looting to speak of.

Ah I see. Ol' Trunt is a career law enforcement guy and last I'd heard he was teaching at the police academy. Guess we have two Jacks in LE.

We had 1700+ new cases this morning. That's pretty high for a monday.

The hospitals in the urban areas of FL are filling up quickly.

You're not supposed to tell everyone how good it is there Jack!:biggrin:You know after the hoards of non compliance types ruin the major cities they'll start heading your way to screw it up there also.
It's much the same here in B.C. Everyone is getting fed up and starting to show much less common sense when away from home, doesn't help having so many mixed messages from the gov.
Take care stay safe all
