That's a shame, mask wearing and other sensible precautions (in the proper contexts) is very high in my part of the country. Its just become normal and sensible and only slightly irritating. Even during the mass evacuations during the wildfires people were pretty good, actually probably better, at taking sensible precautions.

EastCoastCB lives in Florida where the mask mandate has been removed ... across the entire state. Same goes for any restrictions on businesses and gatherings. It is "business as usual" in Florida. My folks live there as well and report that some people still use a mask.


Wearing a mask during the fires is a good thing ... it can help filter out the smoke particles. I can only imagine how thick it must be in California as we have seen it in the Fort Worth/Dallas area.

the death rate in sweden has continued to fall even though their case rate is going up.. even if you put the 30 day lag into it..



the USA its too early to tell as the hard up-trend just started little more than 30 days ago so the death rate is still declining slowly here.. theres always a lag in those 2 numbers..



the big issue isnt masking from what ive seen, its parties and gatherings.. weddings, college parties.. and up north here as our weather starts to turn to real fall people are moving back indoors which is driving a big spike in cases..



more and more srtudies indicate that outdoor activities are MUCH safer than indoor.. but who wants to be outside when it is turning cold and rainy? no one..



I'll be using my bus more and more.. esp as more of my old hangout coffee shops close uo their doors .. diowntown is a ghost town now.. so that means the previously wide-open spaces indoors are becoming more populated. which means i get my coffee and hang out in the bus..



ive got my 12kw webasto hooked up, my dual-carrier Mikrotik running an LM960 with carrier aggregation and dual 2x2 MIMO antennas going.. the remote control system for turning on / off the heaters and internet systems is almost done. so im ready to stay bugged-out in my mobile DEV lab this winter.. I will likely travel to where i can exercise outdoors.



exercise is a HUGE part of my brain and physical health.. this winter I wont have my outlet which is walking the inside of huge expansive shopping malls. . I have not and dont plan to sert foot in an indoor mall for quite some time.. my little body absolutely cant exercise in ohio winter temps and I absolutely cannot sit indoors all winter.. the little I tried it at the beginning of this pandemic almost landed me as a statistic of suicide so i know what I have to do.. as long as states dont lock down hard enough to force closed the suburban hotels and outdoor parks I'll be OK.. if they do I'll expect to be that statistic oif an indirect coronavirus casualty

We're marching quickly toward a quarter million dead in the US.
231,000+ as of today. Lots of folks said that wouldn't happen. Maybe 10% of that die of the flu on a bad year.

All we had to do was wear some masks and stand a bit apart, wash our hand and we'd have saved a ton of lives and livelihoods.

The numbers are climbing back up. Stay safe out there, and remember this is a marathon not a sprint.

I wanted to put an order in for my bus windows but haven't heard back from Lippert Components when they usually respond in a couple of hours. Makes me think they are or their factories are shutting down. Until a vaccine is developed and administered, this will never end. Living with Sarcoidosis of the lungs is a huge risk for me but we live life masks and all.

I can only speak for my area and masks are pretty scarce here unless there's a policy and its enforced.
My mom has Sarcoidosis, I don't know if I mentioned it specifically, but yeah she's been extremely careful for the most part. Stay safe and healthy out there! :marshmallow:

Folks seem to forget that the total number of cases in the US is a SMALL percent of our population ... 9 million divided by 330 million is 2.7% of the population. That means a LOT more people have NOT been infected so the number of cases will continue to rise until more of the population have some immunity.

Sorry but Pandemics are not that simple. The vast majority of the country is wearing masks. This is one of the big problems.. People have been informed that they can just wear a mask and go about their consumer shopping as normal.

To do real virus isolation we would have had to shut down 90% of our economy. This would mean that you would not be able to go buy pizza and go to big box store every other day.

No it is not “plan and simple”. Their has been a few cases of re-infections out of millions of cases. Millions of people have not been reinfected a very small handful has. With every virus there are anomalies. You are cherry picking info to try and back up your chicken little fear mongering.

Interesting about the "going out to buy a pizza" as I have to agree big time with you. We are led to believe that mask wearing is all it takes aside from washing hands. My wife and I went out yesterday (I know, shame on us for not using a beautiful 80º+ weekend to do work on the bus!) I had to make a stop at Lowes where the cart pusher guy just threw in a parking lot load of carts back into the corral and I grabbed one. Yes, I should have cleaned it with one of their wipes, but long gone are the days where they spray sanitized them. Same with a grocery store (Sprouts farmers market) where I saw the same thing. They just put the carts in the corral and moved on. (No wipes left in the container) and finally, we went to Rubios (Taco shop) and they no longer disinfect the tables. Ours and another vacant table still had scraps. When we sat down, the girl just wiped off the empty table and did nothing for the chairs, nor was there any special treatment. Just a wet rag as usual. Whats worse, is most stores used to leave their doors propped open so customers didn't need to touch the handles. Keep in mind we live in a warm climate so it's not like snow is blowing into these stores. All the places we visited the doors were closed. I think as humans we all get complacent. Bottom line and not getting into politics, We are each responsible to take precautions and risks associated with going out in public. No government agency will stop the virus unless we are locked in our homes with the front doors "welded" shut. I heard they did that in China. So we need to get that vaccine out already.
We did go to Costco yesterday and although we didn't need any paper goods, the towels and TP were gone. Worker said they were sold out within the hour they opened. Went to get Propane refilled for my BBQ tank and the guy there said he's not coming to work on Monday since he's beat from filling hundreds of tanks from people panicking about another shut down.

The first thing that needs to happen is everyone needs to agree it’s a real thing, it’s communicable before it’s symptomatic, it’s deadly for some people, and it’s worthwhile to try to save those people.

Masks and hand washing are just a couple things that can help. Why don’t people understand that a mask protects others so if you don’t wear one around others in public, you’re either misinformed or a huge jerk.

We don’t need to lock down the country to minimize the spread. We could for instance, avoid large gatherings...

I'm currently in a hybrid class EMT training program and honestly a bit terrified about starting clinicals in a week when infection rates are as high as ever.



Honestly, I have no intention of working as an EMT, but wanted to have the education for my own sake and for the sake of those around me. The school I've been taking class at has been pretty stringent, but hearing my classmates talking about going out to a dine-in restaurant for a steak in our major metro area really wears away at my nervous system (I'm immunocompromised).


In August, traveling from the west coast (which was on full lockdown) to the east coast where I am now, was wild to say the least. I kept Lysol on me for all the gas station pump handles, had my sanitizer locked and loaded and a mask on at every stop. In some states, where folks were especially lax about precautions, but highly trafficked junctures, I'd wear my face shield too. I got some looks, but honestly, I kind of love the wide berth everybody gave me!


Hope everyone is staying well who's on the road or getting ready for the next wave from home! I was lucky enough to move out of my Geo Metro and into a friend's while I figure out my school bus setup.

Florida is an unmitigated disaster and "herd immunity" mentality is killing people here.
Panic buying is back, the numbers are at peak levels again with 9000+ for a few days running.
I ran out of rolling papers and went to the local store to get a few packs. Not a mask in sight. I put on my kn95 and waited till the store was empty.
