When did Craigslist sell out? Used to be everything was free. I just went to run an ad to give some high school kid a job helping me disassemble the bus. By the time I was at the category to list it under i was already at $35.

From CL :

"All craigslist postings are free, except for:
  • Job postings in selected areas—$7-75 (fee varies by area)
  • Brokered apartment rentals in NYC area—$10
  • Various by-dealer categories in the US—$3-5
  • Cars/trucks by-dealer in the US, Vancouver BC—$5
  • Furniture by-dealer in the US, Vancouver BC—$3
  • Gigs in US and selected CA areas—$3-5
  • Services in US and CA—$5

Visa, MasterCard, and American Express are accepted.
Paid posting accounts provide additional payment options in many cases.

Questions? Please email billing@craigslist.org."

How'd you get to $35 for a seat removing gig?
That seems way too high.

I understand the need to charge a buck or two (and it should help cut down on the fishing and spam), but $35 is crazy.

Post it in Facebook marketplace and some local buy sell trade groups. Barely anyone checks Craigslist for stuff like that anymore. At least where I’m from.

What a great article. I was curious why they started charging fees for employment too, and was initially disappointed. Then I asked myself - How the **** did they make money all these years? Servers are expensive, as are employees - somebody has to pay the bills. Having started several online-tools like it in the past, I too identified with being a "good internet citizen" - but that "role" does not seem to pay the mortgage well? :)
