My water pump went bad. The bearings wore out and it is leaking water past the shaft. Been looking on line for days and can not find even a picture of the water pump. Any one here know what to look for? A part number or where to get one? HELP!!! Its a 1968 model and I think it is a NH 220 cummins engine.

I don't know diddly about Crowns, but there are some here that will tell you exactly what you have and where to find that pump.:thumb:

1968, dang. That thing was driving kids around when USA was walking on the moon.

Thanks for sharing. Do you know a lot about 2-stroke Diesels?

It has 600 watts of solar panels on the rood, hot water heater, big RV fridge, 4 six volt Trojan batterys, 80 gallon fresh water with pump. shower with tub and separate bathroom. Micro wave, oven and stove, 40 gallon black water tank and 60 gallon grey water tank. Gets 10 MPG on the highway.

BUT I NEED TO FIND A WATER PUMP!!!! or it is going no where.

Ya Rusty. Maybe in a few days some one here where to get a water pump like I need. I sent it down to San Diego to a company who is going to look at it and see if they can rebuild it. I expect to get it back saying they can not.

As far as Detroit Diesels I know a bit about them. What ya need to know?

Be patient. Take pics of the ID tags and maybe more motor pics...

Ya I have a bunch of pics of the pump and motor. First the motor has to be a early 220 horse 743 cubic inch engine. It has 4 valves per cylinder. Outside the head fuel and return lines for each injector. A Cummins PT fuel pump that mounts facing forward of the engine. The water pump mounts right next to the crank shaft pulley with the only V belt adjustment is adjusted by the water pump pulley squeezing the belt. Here are some pictures. This is the front of the engine by the crank shaft pulley. The water pump mounts right next to the crank shaft pulley. To the right of that is where the fuel pump mounts. Had to remove the fuel pump to get access to the water pump. Tight area!! That rust you see where the water pump mounts is just where water has sat for a while and wipes right off.

I was hoping so, but nope. No cartridge for this pump.:banghead:

Try this guy:

I have lots, LOTS of bus parts, and advice
My name is Patrick young. I have owned about 100 Gilligs, Crowns, Fords, Waynes, Internationals, Thomases, I've lost count. Also 5 fire trucks, vehicles raning from 1954 Crown to 1990 Crown. All types of engines, even gas Hall Scotts.

I have a huge inventory of parts, and a good mental inventory and network of folks to help rare parts get found, how to get repairs done cheaply, I been doing this stuff for 17 years.

You need a part, or some advice, just give me a ring.

I talked to him on the phone last year. He is a good guy for sure, but as far as parts for a Cummins engine he has no idea about the water pump. But I did find a glass company in Riverside California that will cut ya a flat laminated windshield for $130.00. Thats cheap!!!!

I saw that impeller.. good thing that blade didnt end up in the coolant circuit and block a passage.. thats probably what took out the bearing.

is there a possibility that engine was manufactureed by someone else and sold under the cummins name? ie International made some engines that detroit sold under their own name..

Got the pump sent out for rebuilding. The impeller broke when I laid it down. I thought it was a metal impeller, but it was plastic and being old it broke easily. Should be done by Tuesday morning for around 250 bucks total.
Right now I am working on the windshield replacing. Today is going to be around 90 outside. Been to cool to have the rubber flexible enough to get the old broken windshield out. So we will see what happens today. Got a couple of the suction cups to hold the glass better. Found a place local that will cut me a new windshield for 125 bucks! Can't beat that.
