Does anyone have experience with this issue? The cruise control is not functional.. 😅
A fault code from the stop arm or 8-way roof safety lights on a 2014 Thomas Freightliner C2 Saf-T-Liner can make the cruise control inoperable.
The stop arm, 8-way lights, and other safety equipment are integrated into the bus's electrical system, often governed by a Bulkhead Module (BHM) or similar multiplex system. If this system detects a fault in the safety lighting (like a bad relay, short, or improper signal), it can trigger an active fault code that prevents the Engine Control Module (ECM) from engaging the cruise control for safety reasons.
Here is a breakdown of why this happens:
  • Integrated Safety Systems: On Thomas C2 buses, the warning lights and stop arm are part of the Body Control Module logic. If the system thinks a stop arm is extended or if there is a malfunction in the 8-way warning system, the ECM will not allow cruise control to engage.
  • Voltage/Ground Issues: A faulty stop arm relay or motor can cause voltage irregularities in the system. The cruise control system on Freightliners requires consistent voltage, and a, "short to ground" or blown fuse in related circuits can cause it to stop working.
  • Safety Interlocks: The cruise control is designed to disengage if it receives a signal that the vehicle is in "stop mode." If a faulty, 8-way light switch or stop arm switch is sending a "falsely active" signal, the cruise control will not engage.
Troubleshooting Tips:
  • Check the bulkhead module (BHM) for active codes.
  • Inspect the stop arm relay and connections for corrosion or damage.
  • Check for a blown fuse in the driver's side fuse/relay panel labeled "Cruise" or "Dash Switch Power".
If the 8-way light or stop arm failure is intermittent, it may be caused by a, "soft fault" in the module that requires diagnostic software to clear.

On older buses cruize control is often disabled in the ECM. If it is you need to enable it with servicemaxx. But you have a 2014 Thomas Freightliner and are in new territory, but the issue may be the same. You may need to have it enabled in your ECM as often times it's disabled at request of the bus fleet when they purchase the buses. If this is the case it doesn't matter what you do in hardware or wiring if it's software disabled.

I don't know if you can even get software to work on those Thomas branded freightliners anymore and may have to take it to a dealer to get it enabled.

You got the same issue/question on 2 threads. Please keep it down to ONE!

Your post above seems AI generated... no bueno !!!

First one has to understand how the Freightliner BHM and it slave components are installed and how they interact with each other. It is quite different and more complex than the International BCM!

I posted quite a bit of info so that one can begin to understand how this system is designed and what module are in play.

for those who are interested ...it's here --> Thomas bus, safety lights + stop arm - program out or mimic with resistors?
