Dare I just pop rivet the roof supports?

I'm about to lift the roof in the next couple of days.

Going to use a bastardized version of the lift rig from the Millicent build, basically everything but the jack, substitute 1/2 all thread. The tensile strength is more than enough.

I find myself wondering though.
I bought a pile of 1/4 inch pop rivets that claim to be good for 565 pounds in tension and 465 in shear.
I feel like that sounds every bit as good as a couple of little welds and Not liable to burn the whole thing to the ground, considering there is already a solid oak floor, shower stall and my stuff in here.

Yall think they'd cut it?

Oh and the pneumatic riveter from harbor freight... magnificent.

There's pop rivets and there's pop rivets...

IF you're using steel, solid core pop rivets (like cherry max rivets) than yes, it will be strong enough IF the overlapping metal joints are large enough surface to use several rivets...

Also depends on what you're adding to the roof later on.
Just a couple mini-splits?
1000 lbs of 2" x 4" decking and railing to hold six people dancing...?

I do hope to put some form of a deck up there eventually. Dunno if I'm cool enough to find 6 people to dance on it. Haha

Yes, cherrymax would be a great idea but I'm sure they're a pretty penny.

Probably unwise to trust these things to their full claimed capacity but they are big honkers. Make pretty bold capacity claims. Hell, if I had 10 on top and bottom of the split, that would be good for "5000 pounds"
28 pillars, yeah, I think it would hold.

The little wire welder would have a hell of a time producing any stronger union. Even with an inch hole in the hat channel to weld inside.

Oh, the Hercules drill bits from harbor freight... I don't know how long they will last but they are the sharpest drill bits I've ever seen.

1/8 punched through 1/8 plate steel in literally 1 second, 5/16 punched that out in about 3 secs. Drill was barely even turning, not even pushing very hard. It was weird

10 on top and 10 on bottom ... should (a non-qualified engineering term) hold!

You may not be cool enough for 6 friends, but your bus will be!
