I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong.

The plugs were changed over at some point from the 6 pin (which you have) to the 9 pin J1939 (which my 2006 CE200 has) and the J1939 has been the standard since. I know after several years, the older interfaces are phased out to the current standard as the older vehicles get retired and scrapped.

Best bet to help is to look on the used market for diagnostic tools that’ll match the connector (there’s bound to be a few out there) or if you can, (I know they have this for the J1939 connector) try to find an adapter cable that’ll fit an OBDII code scanner.

Show us a picture of your outlet on the bus itself, if the outlet has a cable you can visibly see, take a picture of the other end of that cable.

Many don't know this but J1708 pins are built into the J1939 9 port plugs for backward compatibility. This is why 6 port to 9 port adapters work. Bluefire which is a 9 port works on J1708 because it only makes use of the J1708 pins.

Show us the pictures. If you are holding the male plugs in your hand, this is what makes me thing there's another outlet behind it on the pic with the grey male port you're holding.

Ok, the backwards compatibility between the J1939 9-pin and J1708 6-pin plugs I did not know about (learn something new)

That being said, with that fact known now, a standard 6-pin to 9-pin adapter can be found, I’ve seen them in Amazon for around $20-$25.

Correct. However you may still run into the issue of male vs female ends with your amazon purchase.

I believe your problem is from your picture you already have a 6-port Extender cable which is male to male. If you unplug and discard this male to male extender cable, and plug in that amazon 6port male to 9-port female extender, you can use the bluefire, but you have to set the bluefire software to use J1708, save, and then restart the application and your communication should work.

Question: Where exactly on my 2006 CE200 international engine is the diagnostic port / plug located; I cannot seem to find mine. Thanks for the help.

Ours is 3 years older and it was located underneath the dash, close to the center of the vehicle (facing down). Not sure that applies to yours.

I appreciate you getting back to me so quickly.
That's right. On my 06 CE200, it's located under the dashboard, on the side where youd find the gear shift, parking brake, stereo, and switches for cruise control and traction control.

It is close to the steps, and right behind the stereo (if your bus has one), facing downward and can be seen while looking under the dashboard.
