Just retired from school district was spare bus not used daily.....
thought this was a great setup....won it on auction for like $5700 with fee's

You paid a fair market value. The "market" being a public auction, and the "value" created by other bidders who were willing to pay almost as much as that. See if they will give you the maintenance records (they should), it will be invaluable in the future.


If it were me, I'd feel I'd gotten that bus at a fair price.

Yes they have the maintenance records.....and the engine was rebuilt like 40,000 miles ago....so you think I got a good deal? Thx I was having second thoughts lol....

It's an OK price, not a steal but you're not getting screwed either. It has the best possible transmission, excellent engine and 40K is brand-new, no rust and the retarder as a bonus. Excellent starting material for a skoolie.

Welcome to the skoolie world. It won't be long before you've spent so much money on other stuff that you won't care about maybe having gotten the bus a grand or two cheaper.

I followed that auction. IMO its still an amazing deal on a real mountain capable bus. Well maintained and ready to go.
You did good. Only a couple buses like this pop up every year.

Folks pay 2x that for complete garbage all the time.

Nope, not at all. Those were some very nice buses. High headroom and underbody storage bays are well worth the extra grand or so versus the average lowroom regular route spec bus.

Someone on here paid $8K for a freaking early 1980s Detroit 8.2 V8 powered bus

Nah, man you did good. We paid just under 5K for our bus with a lower spec transmission and higher miles, but otherwise similar features. IMO you got a decent deal. Like ECCB said, these mountain buses are getting into unicorn territory. Was your bus from Eagle County, CO too?

I don't live near mountains or visit them much, but I WANT one of these mountain CO buses.

Same here, I live in Wisconsin where our "mountains" are considered to be small hills out West.

I still got my mountain-spec bus because an 8.3 Cummins idling along on the freeway is way more reliable than a 5.9 or T444E straining at 85% capacity to hit 65 mph on flat ground. The extra toys such as driveline/trans retarder and exhaust brake are nice to have too.

Not to mention the extra power is nice for the heavier conversions and/or pulling a trailer.

In the OP's defence. A respected member did post something to the effect of "people regularly pay twice that much for a bus like that".

All facts, of which you are completely ignorant of, were known by the buyer before they put cash in my hand. They made an informed purchase AS IS. Buyers remorse is not my problem.
