So, that 1960 Crown school bus that was on ebay sold for $1500 today. The body looked really straight, but it had some missing windows and a seized air compressor and a high oil pressure issue. I was torn and had a long conversation with my wife about it. I felt pretty confident that we could resolve the oil pressure issue and drive her home, but Kara's the accountant and planner...and she pointed out that we're booked up through the end of August with projects. Of course, that dose of reality rarely hits me...so I wanted to buy it and bring her home. I watched the bidding clock count down... $720, $1025, $1225, $1525...sold! I was happy for the buyer, but sad it wasn't me.

Did someone here on Skoolie.net buy her? If so, I (and I think the other Crown fans) will be watching and rooting for you and curious what the oil pressure issue was.

Here was my plan of attack, had we bought her. I was going to Greyhound it to Redding (36 hours...ouch!) and rent a car there, for the back and forth to the bus while getting her road ready. There are two Harbor Freights in Redding, so I was going to buy a cheap air compressor. The seller said he replaced the oil lines and cleaned the oil pressure relief valve. I was going to carry tools with me on the Greyhound to check oil pressures where I could. The seller said that after running for 30 seconds, the pressure would blow the filter off. So, obviously, the issue was downstream of the filter. But what was the issue? The wrong oil...I could be so lucky that it was that easy. I blocked passage? Spun bearings? Hmmm... I planned to check the downstream oil passage for blockage with compressed air. If blocked, I'd have to dig in and find the blockage. I also planned to turn a cheap Harbor Freight sand blaster into an oil pressure pot and then, if the air flowed, try forcing oil and see if it got to the valves. Once I resolved this, I'd have a pleasant and uneventful 1500-mile drive home...or not. And that, unfortunately, also figured into the equation. I actually got 3 quotes to haul her home on a Landoll and they all ranged from $3200-4000.

I hope whomever got her resolved the issues easily and had a nice drive with her. Please keep us posted!
