Disconnected wire?

Does anyone know what this wire is supposed to be connected to? I discovered it a few days ago while working o something. I'm not sure if it's always been hanging like this or if I at one point accidentally knocked it loose and didn't notice. Hopefully, someone here can tell what it is by looking at the vid in the link below. It's a 98 International 3800 dt466e

Thanks

Looks like a single wire, those are typically connected to engine sensors such as water temp or oil pressure. I would simply stretch the wire in all directions looking where it was previously attached

hard to tell exactly from the pics. but on IH vehicles if you pull the loose black plastic sleeve back a bit and clean the wire off there are often numbers written on the wire itself.. these are the circuit number.. I might be able to look the circuit ID up in OnCommand to see what it originally went to..

Obvious idea. Should have thought of this right then and there. Was kinda in a rush when I was near the bus.

Thanks

I see you got 1998 Amtran…
I posted wiring diagrams and also the service manual for an Amtran bus.

Post #2 take a look at the master wire list. You will find the actual wire numbers and what circuit that it corresponds too.

Would appreciate that. Gonna check as soon as I get the chance

At :02 mark you can see a sensor on top of the air compressor that has a screw at the top. It seems that the wire for it is missing. The routing for it should be running back behind the ecm and down to the sensor. It would be for the low air alarm.

I bet you are right! That's exactly where I was reaching while fiddling with the IPR valve, which is right around that area. Doubt it being disconnected could cause a no start, correct?

Thanks!

It shouldn't. Are you still having a starting issue?

Good advice. I would also add, whatever you do, don't leave it hanging on the exhaust.

It would be for the low air alarm.

Maybe it was disconnected intentionally? When I first got my bus my low air alarm went off randomly quite a lot. I got a mechanic to replace the whole thing and that worked for a few months, but then it started going off randomly again. I wonder if that's a common problem on Internationals.

I wouldn't disconnect a low air alarm. I believe having one is required by the fmcsa.

There's a reason it's coming on, whether the spring is weak and letting the contacts touch when it's running/shaking, or it's shorted, I'd fix it. I've also seen guys add too much stuff (air horns) on the wet tank and it's capacity be too small as well. That sensor should be reading off the wet tank pressure.

Nah I think I knocked loose trying to diagnose. My low air alarm has sounded of a few times in the past couple years or so. I just pump air in the tank using my air compressor until it goes off. When this happens the bus won't start unless I do this. Don't know why. Hasn't happened a lot but only in the later years of me having the bus. I think I need a new compressor. Usually when the bus sits a while without being started.
