Hello,

I have a DT466e engine, ever since I got the vehicle it has always taken quite a few cranks to get it started, hot or cold. It seems to start good, just takes 5-10 seconds of cranking to actually get it to fire and idle. When cranking it almost sounds like it’s going faster and faster till it finally starts. When it’s warm, it takes no more than 4 seconds of cranking.

Any ideas? Runs great.

Go to your account and add a signature with the year, engine and maybe trans which will follow all of your post.

Well at least it runs! Do you have any codes? See page 61 of eges 175 for instructions which is in a section for starting issues. You may need to invest in a scan tool if you need to go further. I just bought my second cloned device, but I should have spent more $ the first time and got something not so fragile.

Will do. It’s a 98 international. No codes.

I have a 99 Dt466e and this beast start right up cold or hot. On the flip side of that coin, I also have a 2006 DT466e and man, I am thinking of adding a 3rd battery because this one takes anywhere from 10 to 15 seconds of cranking before she start and when it is cold like say 50 degrees, it takes much longer.

For your '99, when was the last time you changed your air & fuel filters?

Air filter looks almost new but haven’t replaced that. Fuel filter and screen are brand new. I have 3 batteries in mine, they are definitely older but crank it pretty good still. If I put a strong jumper on it, it cranks faster but doesn’t really seem to start it faster.

The longer mine sits, the harder it seems to start. Lift pump is new, check ball is new, filters are good.

I’m almost wondering if it’s the regulator at the rear side of the fuel rail? Maybe it is stuck or something? Not sure how to test if that is properly working or not.

Here is a checklist for hard start - no start for your engine year.
It is what was used in the day for logical and obvious troubleshooting.
Take a look and see what steps you can do and post your results.

Hey, i am not sure...but check to see if your fuel filter assembly has a fuel ball check valve, I have read other threads in where the check valves were sticking. might need some cleaning ?

Never mind, I just realized you replaced it...

Yep, it’s in good shape. Idk how well it works though, if the seal is actually a good seal or not.
