Earth day and consumption

This thread is not meant to be political. It is just memories and thoughts coming to surface. Remember Arbor Day, Earth Day, etc.? Well now there is Ecological Debt Day, or Earth Overshoot Day. Its the day that comes when we use more resources than the earth can renew in one year. It came and went August 13.
It got me to thinking. My take on buying and moving into a bus may be a good thing. A lot of what we (wife and I) are using is recycled or reclaimed. What we plan to use for energy and what we produce for waste (from fuel consumption to produce the energy used) will be less (smaller footprint).
Maybe we are having an affect on others by showing that it is possible to live on less. Will we turn around the me generation of consumers who are used to disposable goods? I doubt it but maybe a few people will stop and think.
Or maybe I just took the wrong meds this morning.

Think about it also this way: by rescuing a bus, you're also lessening the energy/waste footprint that it costs to recycle the bus. The energy requirement to cut it up, compact it, transport, and melt it back down into its component metals. You're also lessening the chances of fluid leaks getting into the groundwater while it's sitting at the scrapyard waiting to get cut up. And, since they're not in-service, hauling kids around, but used infrequently, the carbon footprint of the bus itself is also reduced.

Comments can always be ignored. That is a choice we make when we climb on the internet. Nowhere does it say that every post must include citings from "credible" sources whatever that is. Every time I read something here, I put as much weight on it as anything else. My comment above in the first post, "This thread is not meant to be political. It is just memories and thoughts coming to surface." meant that you are not expected to take it as preachings and certainly not throw stones.
I am happy someone here does not believe my comment was accurate. Maybe it wasn't but it is what is being posted in several places and so I included links. Some don't believe that every roof should be raised (or whatever). It doesn't mean that we should flag the thread or tell others to ignore the comment because no "citations from credible sources" are included. I pass the pills and coffee. Sorry.

When we're talking about electrical, mechanical, fuel, etc we can easily weigh opinions based on our own experiences and the merits of the person offering the opinion as well as common sense.

When we're talking about science (which often has a political spin) nobody should take any one individual's opinion blindly. Be convincing. This means having credible people backing you; as in people who study the field and can be considered "professionals". Science is big. Individually we are small. For the majority of the scientific field you cannot rely on personal opinion. None of us have lived long enough to anecdotally know what's going on in this universe.

And I went and dug out seven cherry tree's, stump and all, around 8 inches in diameter, that were standing dead to build a sweet hardwood table from.

I'm waiting to post the pics till winter like I always do.

why would I be welding drums together and filling with concrete

That is really kewl!! I used to take care of the goats at a petting farm in the disney campground many years ago before it burned down. Those goats used to jump the fence and roam the grounds all the time. Fun days spent rounding them up. Mmm curried goat - best I ever had was in Jamaica back in 74.

Aindreas had "cocci" and I had to monitor temps...they are called kids for a reason, just glad we didn't get bottle babies...yet...

you can see his running nose and he had a temp of 103.8

It the second book that scholars from MIT published with estimated limits on or exponential growth as a race on earth.

It's a bit dry but they make a decent (the best imo) job of explaining why it can't go on like this for very long...
