Paint should never be what's keeping out the weather.

Fix it right, then paint it with whatever you like.

Its not a real fix for a leaking bus roof. Its a band aid at best.
Use elastomeric if that's what you want, but sealing the leaks and fixing anything that's causing the leaks is step one.

That's exactly what it is designed for, why can't you just admit it.

Sorta like seam sealer to fix leaky seams, to me that sounds like a Band Aid too.

Buses are BUILT with seam sealer. As are cars, pretty much every factory is using seam sealer to, well, seal seams.
Its cheap and easy to use. Takes minutes to apply.
Sure seams (lol) like a good step to take when building out a bus. Preventing future leaks and protecting all that hard work.
Its your bus, your dime. Roll your own.

Roof paint

Maybe I should paint the roof of my wife's car as a test. Her black Scion would be a one-of-a-kind with a white roof. That car gets really hot inside.

There was a thread here some time back (that I wish was a sticky) where a memeber applied various finishes to like pieces of sheet metal and measured the temperature on the back of each piece under like conditions.

IIRC: He found that the BusCoat was the best by a tiny margin and that sawdust mixed with rustolium worked almost as well and elastomeric coating worked almost as well as rustolium with sawdust.

Please don't trust my memory though. Anyone remember who did that test? Maybe we can find that thread?

My own opinion....

I have used the white elastomeric coating on residential roofs. It worked well beyond my expectations in that application. I have also used it on the roof of my 5th wheel to recoat areas sealed at the factory.

Based on my experience, I will not be using it on my bus. I will be using white rustolium (or equivalent). That said, I will be shading much of my roof with solar panels.

I never said i had any roof leaks..the elastomeric paint with the ceramic beads added is to help cool the roof.. the sealant part is just a bonus for me..The thing that confused me was the grouting of the seams..and at least half of my roof is for my solar panels..

I'm gonna do a science project this weekend. I've got white paint and access to a small quantity of lizard skin coating... And of course lots of metal I can cut squares out of and more sunshine than I can handle. Weather permitting I should have an opinion based on research next week.
