Oh cool, that's good to know. I think very often the dealer can do more than they'll admit to. I guess they just don't want the general public knowing they can do this or that.

Sometimes with trucks the drivers will pay for an hour of ship time to change the computer even on a company owned truck ie thay $200 is easily made up of a driver can drive at 75 or 80 instead of 62.. depending on the truck and company and routes travelled it may not need an ELD. So I think a dealer takes the position of least resistance which is “no can do” vs having to maintain lists of authorized people who can and can’t program the computer ..so say no to walk ins ..

It seems to me that's why there's a passcode on the ECM in the first place, so company trucks can't be backdoored by unscrupulous drivers. I had this exact situation on my last company truck and needed to disable the idle shutdown while I was far away so my fleet manager routed me to a Freightliner dealership with our company's ECM passcode and instructions to have them disable the function. The company maintenance manager still had to also contact the dealership directly to confirm they authorized the change to a company truck. After that the truck would idle indefinitely yet I still continued to have some of the lowest idle averages in the entire fleet so idling is as much a matter of good habits as it is technology. Even after that necessity was past they never saw a need to reinstate the idle limit on that truck up until I traded it in on a new one but that is a whole other story!
