Exterior roof sealing at the seams

I seem to have a leak coming down one of my seams. I have not painted the exterior yet so I am trying to figure out the best way to seal all of the seams before I paint....... Anyone have some advice on this?

anecdotal experience

Some thoughts about seams, relating to experience to seams on wood boats.

Because the bus is somewhat flexible, the seam sealer should also flex. Try to find something that never gets stiff. I have some datsuns from 1970, the seam sealer used in those cars is still flexible after nearly fifty years.

I am going to try to "squirt" some sort of sealer into seams of the roof of my bus - a 1954 in an attempt to seal leaks. I dont know if I do have any, but I suspect that I do.

I think a big name like 3M has many choices, telephone calls to techlines, also calls to folks that do restorations, then there is you tube. We both have some homework to do.

Seam sealer. I use Dynatron 550.

I'm hunting for the tube of sealant I liberated for where we build military vehicles, can't seem to find it ATM but it's a 3m product.
It is used over primer but under paint and sent out to every climate the American military has vehicles in.

Soon as I find it I'll pop a picture up

Sounds like 550.

They've got it in regular size tubes at my local Autozone for $15.

There are several quality seam sealers. One not mentioned yet is Silkaflex 220+. It is used primarily to glue in windshields and sticks to almost everything. While wet, it cleans up easily with mineral spirits. I have used it successfully on all my skoolie windows as well as a seam sealer. The material can be painted with anything once cured and after 5 or 6 years on my bus it still looks and performs like new.

Regardless which sealer you choose, through pre cleaning and sanding to remove dirt, old sealer and dead paint is a must.

I've found it cheaper to buy from a local windshield guy than from ebay or amazon. Jack
