First time saying hello, 18 months into my Blue Bird build

Hello everyone, I’ve been silently combing through this forum for a year or two and have just now gotten a round to posting an introduction.
To begin with, I flew from Atlanta to Montana and bought a blue bird all American gutted because it checked literally every box. 6CT mechanical Cummins 8.3, MD 3060, factory pass through storage bays and zero rust. Oh, and I had an oil analysis on the engine at the owners expense which checked out as well. Also, the owners were very up front and not shady like so many seem to be. Fast forward and the 2300 mile drive went perfectly, no governor either but I don’t recommend running 80 in a 38 ft bus.

Over the past year or two I’ve managed to raise the roof 16”, install a propane tank, delete the interior coolant system (my one regret), add 4” subfloor insulation, solar rails, two max air fans, delete unused wiring, install the outdoor portion of two mini splits, delete two existing exit doors, install all Rv style living windows, build a custom front door, install the water heater, pre wire all electrical and spray foam to 3” thickness and finally I’m nearly complete with the walls and interior rough framing etc.

Just to type that and I’m exhausted! I’d like to make multiple posts detailing each step and various phases just to give anyone else an idea of how I did things.
Things coming up that I’m working on- I’ll be installing a full off grid Victron system based on a 5k 24v Quattro, I’ll be building my own cabinetry, finishing the tile and trim work, re-install a new defroster system, install diesel heater, indoor mini split install x 2, new tires, paint job, finish drain lines and also CSST propane install. I’ll attach pictures and update over the next few weeks, but for now I’ll get some uploaded.

Not sure why half of these pics rotated

More pictures. For the record I don’t care for the locations of either mini split, but the storage bays dictated the locations of several things. I had initially wanted to move the door to a mid ship entry, but decided I didn’t want to lose any storage bay space. I did the roof raise entirely by myself, I had a few buddies help for about an hour during the actually lifting of the roof but that’s it. Hanging the 4x10 sheets of galvannealed metal was not easy but I got it done using ratchet straps and 6x6s as “jacks” so to speak. I did hire someone for the spray foam for $2800 which was worth it. I think by the end of everything, I should have around 60k including the purchase of the bus itself. This includes all solar and electrical for 2800 watts and 600 AH lithium 24v battery storage. I have 2 100 gallon fresh tanks under the floor in the back and 2 75 gallon grey tanks under the bus. Think tank composting toilet (way expensive but for my family of 5 was one of my splurges)

Rotation tip: convert all your pics to PNG format before uploading them and they will be oriented correctly. Also, after uploading your pics in the popup, click the paper clip icon again and it will show a dropdown that lets you insert each pic inline in the text (this lets you have text above or below each pic so you can explain more about what we're looking at). All pics not referenced inline appear in the "Attached Thumbnails" box, as in your first two posts here.

Your work looks to be excellent, will be cool to see more pics and explanations.

Nice looking build!!! to me the 14-18" roof raises make the most sense.. creates a rig that doesnt look out of proportion but gives you nice height inside, deosnt create an overly tall rig after you install fans and solar on the roof you are still well under 13 feet.

Lookin good!!!

Thanks! I think if I did it over I would have gone with 18” but certainly no more. I raised the floor in the back over the fresh tanks and the shower and bathroom are built over the wheel wells, the extra height would have been just that much better. I can still stand up with a few inches to spare so it’s not a big deal really.
