For sale: 1997 Crown w/wheel chair lift/door

I've had this bus since 2012. She now has 83,000 miles on her. She sits on a GMC 1-ton chassis with a 6.5 liter GMC diesel and a 5-speed automatic trans. She has power steering, front and rear A/C, a mini-fridge and a 2000/4000W inverter. Relatively new front tires; good tires all around and a good spare. I took all but four of the seats out. I used it mainly for my volunteer work building wheel chair ramps and for camping. I installed tie-downs so that one can haul up to four wheel chairs. I used a queen-size mattress in it for camping. She gets about 8.2 mpg. The only mechanical issue is a bad pulley seal on the power steering pump - it works fine; you just have to refill the reservoir periodically - and I'm just too lazy to fix it. There are also a couple of cracked but intact rear windows on her. She is titled as an RV; my insurance company wouldn't insure her as an RV till I put a sink and toilet in but I currently have the cheapest level of commercial insurance on her and it is no more expensive than my other cars.
This would be an excellent conversion for someone in a wheel chair. She proudly sits on the east side of Indianapolis, Indiana. Originally $5000.00 but reduced to $4500.00 due to my laziness at fixing the power steering issue.

Sorry for the repeat ? but your reply above is not crystal clear in my mind.
Is it just the door still installed and operational, or is the chair lift still in/functional as well?
Also what is the overall bus weight if you know. (I need to figure shipping from Indy to NH)

Yes. Both the door and the lift are still installed and fully functional. The bus weighs approx. 8 tons.

It is NOT a Crown! Crown went out of business six years before your bus was made.

It is a "Crown by Carpenter". Carpenter bought the Crown name and used it for a bit before they went under...

I have a 98. It is not a "true Crown"

I believe we are all three correct. In fact, there are badges by the front and rear door that say "Wolfington Body Works" on it. So, I assume that is the actual coachmaker for the bus.:hide:

They are not that difficult to remove, just some bolts and wires to disconnect. They are heavy and bulky. Some have trouble giving them away, some sell them for a few bucks, they are worth a whole lot.

Do you think a scrap yard would take it?

I meant, they are not worth much. Scrap will take it, but see if you can find a salvage metal yard that will pay you for it. Right now scrap is trending in the $5-$6/100lbs.

Personally I'm leaving my wheelchair lift in, since I plan to travel and it will be handy for loading/unloading large items.


If selling the bus, I'd at least offer to leave it in, you never know if the next buyer may want/need it or not.
