Hey all, just picked up a 1991 Ford b600 to start my first conversion. This is my first diesel also so I have a few things to learn. Just curios as to what injection pump it is I have on the bus, its a 6.6 165hp engine and also curious on the tunability of it. Read a lot of posts saying its similar to other pumps out there but just not sure. Was skeptical on buying it as it had quite a lot of miles 173,xxx and didn't run at the time of the auction, but with a couple of decent used batteries and some fuel system priming it fired right up. Smoked a little bit but cleared up nicely.

Looks like a 6-pole 100A alternator.

Oreilly's has a list of stuff you can get for it, since I'm sure that there were a few made and installed on that platform. Would need to know more information about the mounting, but you could probably fit just about anything that you wanted or needed on it, including something special like a 200A or a little more light if you don't want/need that much power.

I don't know anything about these engines-- other than I think folks really like them. Brazilian Ford. Used in medium duty trucks and maybe tractors too? So-- was that a photo of the Bosch Injection pump-- or a Bosch Alternator?

A brief Google Search says they are good reliable engines, a little under powered, and parts are sort of hard to come by. Also, one fellow said his 6.6 has a Bosch P Pump injector pump, which is a very good thing.

That's a p pump. 10mm plungers so it's not super high performance, but you should be able to get more then 165 horse out of it. Probably need to upgrade the turbo to do much, otherwise you'll be too hot. Installation of a pyrometer is a must.

Google p7100 tuning and you'll read more then you'd ever want to.

Ford/new holland/brazilian engines are good. Dead reliable, but nearly obsolete. It's a shame ford chose the IH idi for their trucks instead of these engines.

What part of the world are you in? I've got some filters for one that I've pulled off the shelf and into a box to free up space, I'd give them away if you're close/interested. I haven't seen one of these engines in 15 years.

I also have a truck with the larger Brazilian Ford 7.8l factory set at 230 hp and post turbo the pyro runs at 975 on a hard pull. You must also remember if you ef it up, parts are pretty much unavailable. They are parent bore (no sleeves) engines and if you stick a piston it will need a trip to the machine shop, if they can find oversize pistons or sleeves for it. Ford replaced it with the Cummins 8.3 later. I like mine but I also know its limitations and just live with them.

good to know, thank you. I was just curious if there was some extra power hiding in the engine. it can handle 55mph or 60mph if im pushing it as is which is fast enough for me

I have always heard parts are as easy to find as long you go to a new holland tractor dealer.

Certain parts do interchange with tractor engines, and you can still find filters and "service" stuff yet at parts stores. Other parts like water pumps are a little more difficult. As far as hard parts, those are getting really hard to find locally. The internet still shows them available, but who knows how long that will be the case.

Fuel systems on the trucks aren't interchangeable with ag stuff. But bosch still had some things like nozzles and stuff last I checked. No idea on lines or anything else.

For instance, I only see a dozen or so water pumps available nationally for them at $400+ cost. Whereas my local napa has a 6bt water pump on the shelf for 40 bucks.

Unfortunately they weren't used in the light duty side like the 6bt was, and they weren't all that popular in the MD side like the dt466. So age coupled with obscurity coupled with rarity hasn't helped them. IDK if you could source a new flywheel or crankshaft anymore. That's likely only going to get worse.

Hello Deezgilliams! We have a 1993 b600 6.6 six window, and we love it! How is your build coming? Our Diesel mechanic knows this bus well (Berryville, VA) if you ever get stuck with parts. We drive back to VA when we need work done!

Do you have pictures of yours? Mine is basically a glorified tent at the moment but I use it for local camping and it has been awesome. Hoping to add some electrical/solar this summer
