I was wondering if anyone has used a fresh water tank for their generator fuel tank? The small fittings are 3/8" thread. I would need a 1/4 hose barb for the fuel line. Not too sure if that would be a possibility.

I was also looking at the Moeller marine fuel tanks.

I would like to put a fuel gauge on the dash for the genny fuel level.

So, do you think this type of plastic would hold up to gasoline?

I was wondering the same thing, except I'm considering using a plastic tank for my veggie fuel tank. I know the polyethylene has been used for diesel and biodiesel applications, and in fact my veggie oil system in my car uses the same type of plastic for fuel tubing. I've also seen plastic fuel tanks. Of course my experience with polyethylene is all with diesel/biodiesel/WVO, so I'm not sure about how gasoline would affect the plastic.

Head to the junkyard with dimensions of the area you can mount your tank, then find one that fits. It may be steel, may be plastic, but will be made to deal with fuel. You will be able to set up a standard filler for it, pass any inspection, maybe even sleep a little better!

The Valterra Rocket (Fresh) water tanks are made of ABS... same thing a lot of replacement fuel tanks are made of. Doesn't gas/diesel "rot" polyethylene? Nice thing about the ABS is that you can glue in all your fittings and/or make repair without having to have someone else do it or investing in extra equipment.

The Valterra tanks are available locally from most any RV parts store. My ABS water tanks came from JC Whitney. Both are large enough that were baffled.

Some good ideas. Thanks for the link Smitty. Thats a decent tank. Still undecided. Hmm.....
